Ouch, I had changed my username to Tom' (I just like to be known as Tom so my last name is superfluous), and tested the 60 day thing by trying to change it back to Tom DeMille. To my surprise, I was able to.
(ReReading Markos' messages at the start of this thread, he does say that you are able to switch back, so no big surprise I guess).
Unfortunately when I tried reverting to Tom', it said I had to wait 60 days to switch. Oh well, that's what you get for testing if something works. It works, but not necessarily as you might have expected.

What is this? A good piece of news to dam up the previous bad one?
No, but it's great. Now let's see if my sig works...

‘Snapcase was reliable,’ said Mr. Sock gloomily. ‘Remember when he made his horse a city councillor?’
‘You’ve got to admit it wasn’t a bad councillor. Compared to some of the others.’
‘As I recall, the others at the time were a vase of flowers, a heap of sand, and three people who had been beheaded.’
Terry Pratchett, Feet of Clay

Can we change our email address? Mine is an old email that I don't use any longer and I would like to update it without having to "start over."
I'll give it a try.
*nope*

hmmm, lemme see if I understand this...
Suppose my username was A, and I then changed it to B. Am I correct in saying that I would be able to revert it back to A before 2 months had gone by, but I would not be able to then change it to anything else?
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>actually, there was a small bug that made the script to work a bit like what you said
it's fixed though: no matter what, if you make a change the next will be in 60 days...

Can the admins change the User Name of a poster? Say someone decided (foolishly and rashly) that they want their user name to be "MarkG's Whore", a username which is forbidden by the rules of the forum. Now, they'd get a vacation and a post count reduction, but would they get their old name back? I mean, if they wouldn't, they'd in effect be banned for two months.

Can I ask a favour of an admin/mod??? Please. Could you change my login name to AI or revert it back. I performed a test of this name changing stuff without realising you have gone ahead and enforced the 60-day rule.
------------------
The (piss) artist formally known as Provost Harrison is now known as HARDMAN II for the next sixty days. I didn't want to keep this name, but I am stuck. If any mod/admin can help, please oblige.

Provost, you can now change your login. the 60 day limit is not upon you.
I wont do this again people, I have better things to do
Dont play with it, use only if you have really decided that you want to change your login
btw, "Lazarus and the Gimp" now has his original login. Anyone who does something similar will be geting a vacation...

So, let me see if I get this right? If I make a new login and decide I don't like it before 3 months (or whatever) is up, I can switch back to Giant Squid with no problems?

One question about this: if I took over someone else's old login could I also edit the posts they made with that login? That would be a bad thing in my opinion.
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>I'll look into it...

ok, now old usernames are protected(I think). let's summarize
- your whole profile will be kept. post count, personal info, everything
- your old posts will keep the old username
- you can change username again after 60 days
- someone can not change into your old username
and people, please, dont play with this! you'll end up begging to be able to change back

Thanks Markos, much appreciated. I am quite content with this one and have no intention of changing. But I totally agree with Markos, don't change your username unless you are really sure; it is more hassle for the admins and confusing for every other poster. My change is permanent, the only reason I used PH from the offset was for familiarity from old alpha.owo posters and couldn't think of anything better at the time.

Now that changing one's name is different than before, is it possible for me to get my old username's posts added to mine? It's a detail, but it would be cool....
