Where to put our 2nd City? Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Discussion on this topic can be found in this thread

It is now time to vote on where our 2nd city should be placed. I have compiled one map showing all of the proposed locations:

If there is an overwhelming choice, we will certainly go with that. If not, we will have a runoff poll with the favorites.

This poll will be open for 4 days.

I still favor my original idea of the forest where the red tile is located. It gives us an excellent springboard to the ivory and is a solid city for a quick barracks via forest chop to get some unit production up and running.

My current favorite is blue. It can share the cattle while getting some production under way. Red can be next after blue.

I agree with Rhoth. The good terrain, and relative location to the ivory, make it ideal. We could use the forest to build a temple to expand the city's culture and take the ivory...

Temples are expensive. Better to build a city by the ivory, IMO; it can at least give us some workers with those flood plains.

I'm going back to undecided... red would let us road to the ivory at the same time we improve the city, which would be good considering we only have a single, non-industrious worker. And the extra 2 food from the cattle wouldn't go to complete waste, as each could be turned in to a shield by working a forest. However, those extra 2 food could stay food if we founded blue, and that might help us get a second worker faster.

Did I start swaying you last night Klo? I wish I hadn't logged off chat so quickly so I had a chance to post here all the arguments I was using last night.

Not to muddy the water, but is there a reason that forrest between green and orange isn't an option?

Would share the Cow still, have several bonus grass, make a great military camp site, and still allow us to road towards the Ivory...

Voting Yellow, but wouldn't mind if Red won either. (If Red wins, the 3rd city should be placed on Yellow.) I'm normally not a fan of placing cities on hill tops, but given how close an oppoent is to there ...

As to why not forest between green and orange, the main reason is that red would include the Ivory five turns after a Temple (or 4 after a Libary.)

Tired of ads?

it seems red is taking over the half votes
however I think brown is good option because

it is one turn away from the capital - we will need units to that city not from it in the capital
it uses the tiles our worker has already improved
it will pump military units and settlers/workers for our future expansion
it is a port city
it can be dispanded later if not needed anymore

I was wondering the same thing. This site looks the best to me since it is toward ivory and can share the cow. The bonus grass is very nice. Also plenty of forest to chop.

Per this pole - Red IMHO is the best choice, as we get the benifit of high production and being closer to the ivory. Our 4th city should be the ivory, not the third.

My personal preference as well. Red-blue-yellow in that order for city settlement. Though it CDG looks like it's going to make a play for the ivory then that changes to red-yellow-blue real quick.

I like: Blue-Red-Yellow or Blue-Yellow-Red

I voted Blue first.

Red. (although, IMHO, it is really a shade of pink. So maybe I should say - fucsia.)

Got spare money?

From the Turn 23 thread:

quote:
1 Roads R Us building road
-We will road from our current position to the location of our next city, as determined by the people in the pole (most likely Site Red at this time) so as to connect the new city location to our wines right a way and facilitate defensive movements. Once at the new city location, I am leaning towards a forest chop to build a baracks first. Please discuss in the voting thread, not here. Thanks.
--MOI Godking

I concur with this. My recommendation is to move 6-6 to the bonus grass and road that tile, then move 8 to road that bonus grass to link up the city. Then we can forest chop. Depending on whether or not we have a second worker by then we can have him work on mining the bonus grasses since both can be used by either city (again this is all assuming red is the choice )

Assuming red is the choice, I'd also sugest mining a grassland+shield tile that was roaded in route and building a warrior as policemen followed by the forest chop for baracks.
