	Ever cheated? Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

Just taking a quick poll.

I was talking to a few friends about Apolyton when a thought struck me....I don't know if THEY knew about the exploits in the game. I mean, if I could implement them....well, lets just say that it wouldn't be very fair.

But anyway, my question is:

Have you ever cheated at SMAC (using any of the number of exploits?)

My answer, yes. The crawler-SP exploit. But I don't cheat anymore. It takes the fun outta the game.

I'm cheating right now, with a super-faction that gets 9 nutrients and energy from fungus squares, starts with +5 growth, industry, morale research and has Deep Radar and Clean Reactor free for all units as soon as you get them.

I don't cheat or use any exploits (I didn't know about any of them until I turned up here! ).

I have edited the map in order to "bulk up" an AI-player when I felt things were going to easy and I was enjoying fighting on the map (I have a thing for fighting over "Dardanelles" type terrain features...).

I would have to say no. BUT:

1) I don't know most of the exploits, since I usually skip or skim through the exploit announcement threads.

2) I only play against the computer which doesn't notice or care.

aside from reloading which I don't consider a cheat, then no. I have never cheated.

I sometimes restart from an earlier turn when things are going bad. But that only works against AI off course.

As for bug exploits, didn't know most of them since I don't use way points and the like, even the stockpile bug was avoided since I had a tendency to fill my qeue all the time.

In fact, I have to resist the urge to upgrade units in the workshop now in midturn so I can use them better against a nasty attacker.

Sometimes I like to play with some crazy faction settings. I´m playing now with a faction that gets +99 nutrients and +99 energy in fungus squares but dont produce mineral at all. It has also hab complex and habitation dome as starting facilities in all bases. They also have a +5 PLANET bonus. Crazy crazy but very very funny

Other day I created clones of seven factions and give then the "aquatic faction" ability, then started playing in map covered with 100% water (the pirates weren´t there)

I am now trying to create a map 100% covered with fungus, but all faction CANT build formers!
To make things a little easier in early stages of the game, I´m trying to give a +1nutrient/+1mineral/+1energy (and taking off those bonuses from later techs discovered, to permit only the original bonuses for fungus squares in the end of the game).

It depends on how you define cheating. I use some of the more reasonable "exploits", like using crawlers as to gather resources, I don't use the upgrade crawlers before cashing them in for wonders trick on the other hand.

I also use the "keep building and selling centauri parks to gain additional ecodamage-free minerals" exploit, but by the time I implement that kind of plan the game is already well and truely won (against AI only). I do it more because I can than out of any need.

I have tried using custom factions that get interest on energy, so that after a while you've got about 10'000 EC's and you're get 5% interest on it each turn. You end up with far more energy than you could ever need.
I only do that though if I'm trying out some things that I wouldn't normally do, just to see how they work.
In proper games I don't think I've cheated.

Not sure what is the crawler SP cheat? If you are talking about the instabuild technique yes I have used that. But have not upgraded crawlers when cashing it in.

I also used other exploit like stockpile bugs but at concensus.

Have not cheated otherwise then. I planned to do so in a supposed PBEM with a newbie team against a vet team. But the vet team stopped playing only after a couple turns so we the newbies declared victory without me having the chance to use any cheat.

I sometimes do games where I just planet bust everyone and use scenario editor, but on real games I never cheat or exploit bugs. I don't even know any, and when my friends tell me to try them, I can't even figure them out (not that I would use them). Using cheats takes the fun out of the game, but when I got 20 minutes, you can't play a real game, what else do you want me to do?

So using crawlers to accelerate a project is cheating? well, I never did the upgraded-crawler thing, because I don't know how to (and don't know how to). The SP game I'm doing now is the first one where I used a LOT of crawlers getting evergy and minerals. Of course, I send them all to my home base.
But if saving and reloading so my probes are never detected are cheating then sure, I cheat all time.

I only reload games because I think the computer reloads games . Really, how can you tell if the computer is reloading a game during their turn . For all we know, they could have nuked us, figured out it won't do enough damage, then reload and play the turn like normal without us ever knowing it.

I don't quite understand how you can cheat when not playing against human players. How do you cheat the AI? Does it hurt the AI's feelings when you cheat them? If it does, I'm going home and fire-up the a game and type in taunts to the AI

If using exploits is cheating then I'm guilty. I love finding new exploits. It doesn't ruin my game experience. When I need an additional challenge then I'll stop using them.

I only use Punishment Spheres on the Believer bases... and Aliens... I mean, they aren't really mine anyways... plus I like to then gift them to Uni, and let them have fun...

Never cheated. I used the industry toggle exploit before I weaned myself of it.

when you cheat (even against the ai) you aren't cheating them, you are cheating yourself.

I just don't feel comortable not playing the game the way it was intended (I would not feel comortable building Centauri preserves, selling them, and then building them again for example)
