I check the CB forums for the first time in ages and some cretin(s) have taken them down.

It would seem I am at least able to reach the site admin pages, which means updates are still an option. Thank goodness for bookmarks, as I originally thought the only place my password was stored was in my PMs in the forums.

Vel, drop me a PM sometime as to updates. Sorry I've been gone for so long, some rather trying things have come up in my non-CB life, and sometimes refocusing takes some time and energy.

Neither, actually. The initial plan was to go open source, but our goals and strategies have changed since the opening days OF the project (which, in truth, was formed initially very much on the fly, and with no "plan" at all....that evolved as we began feeling our way through this process).

When completed, we plan on giving the game away, making it available for download on our site, and/or burning CD's and charging some nominal cost for the materials and shipping in those instances (to be determined later...I've already got a good burner, and a source for inexpensive CD-blanks, so no biggie there).

The main goal in the early stages of the release will be to get the word out and get as many people playing the game as we can.

What about the bandwith issue related to having a potentially large number of people downloading the game within a short period of time?

Edit: How about peer-2-peer? Wouldn't that be a great way to get the game out to a large number of people?

looking at the quality of the artwork and deep design work in the game we've seen so far, i think Candle'Bre as a freebie is very generous - i'm hoping that it is very popular and then you guys can work on a comercial follow up - you deserve something for your efforts

The moneymaking angle comes when we start negotiations with Prima for a couple million bucks to let them do the strat guide....

Nahh, everything in its time....I'm not worrying any about the money yet. Right now, we're doing it volunteer style, tho eventually yes, I'd like to see us be able to eat AND devote all our time to Candle'Bre...

Hey Gang,

Vel, have you explored the idea of distributing Candle'bre
through Stardock (of GalCiv fame)? I know the owners are fairly keen on getting more developers to use their product.

I have actually purchased several games through them and their software works great. Allows the user to automatically archive applications, allows for frequent and painless patching, and pretty slick. Even if you don't want to charge for the game, I think it might be a viable method for you.

Nope...I think at least for the time being, we can safely assume that 'poly has become our adopted home....my main priority is in getting the game out, so the website will just have to languish for the time being.
