What is the difference between these 2 editions? Does anyone know? Thanks!

Seems that there are multiple versions out because the Gold version I bought from Amazon.co.uk was nothing but Civ3 and PTW slapped together in a cardboard box.
I didn't even get a manual and that annoys me.

Yes, but I paid for Civ3 and feel cheated that they only bundle a crappy .pdf with it. A game such as Civilization deserves more (even if it's a later print of the CD). I got a manual when I bought Conquests, but it only covers the new tech.

If you're willing to pay, I bet you can get the PDF printed and bound at a print shop. |
It just isn't quite the same, though. Not only do I like fat manuals, but also really like it when they're done with style. Like a nice matte finish, or made to look fitting in the genre/era that the game takes place in. The Civ3 manual should be epic, as befitting of the game. The SMAC manual, though really good, should have been like a technical manual, as also befitting of the game (the game's mechanics specifically). Flying games should have manuals that look like airplane training manuals...you get my point. I want the whole package to have effort, and I don't care if it costs an extra 5 or 10 dollars...not that I'd pay that much for the manual serparately...

Yes, I am. That's why I didn't pirate it. It's quite amazing that actually buying the damn thing rewards you with a broken copy protection and a .pdf manual.
Thanks Firaxis (or rather Atari)!
