Well, it's mainly supposed for those who are interested in getting CtP2, and those people visit CtP2 forums in the first place. However, I surely have no objections if some Civ 3 players read it, too.

Actually, its not that bad, but a lot of micromanagement things really need to be addressed in civ3.

micromanagement isn't all bad, if it's fun micromanagement

I like building my empire in the beginning of the game. And I love moving around my workers in the beginning. But it just gets annoying later in the game for some reason. I really should use the automation I guess.

Have you tried Rise of Nations (RoN)? Brian Reynolds, who designed/lead programmer of SMAC, created RoN. I'd also like to recommend a few Paradox games: EU2, HOI, and Victoria.

Personally, I enjoy Civ3 very much, even more since Conquests.

The fact that BR was heavily involved with RoN doesn't really do much to recommend it to a fan of BR's TBS classic. If you like RTS then play RoN, but don't play it just because of BR.

that's true, spikey. to those who love rts games, RON must be a joy to play. to me it was interesting - the best rts game that i have played, but even this fact could not make me want to buy the game after i had experienced the demo.

Yeah that's my point. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing bad about RoN. It's just I get perplexed with TBS people saying they'd buy it just because of BR, when if they don't like RTS they wont like it, regardless of the few minor tweaks introduced in RoN.

The rec is actually easy to understand. The thread author appeared to be distressed over Civ3, I, simply was trying to offer him something constructive.

Indeed. However, based on the preferences he has exhibited I pointed out that it would be more constructive to recommend a TBS game, than an RTS game just because BR was involved in it.

Definitely makes sense. I just didn't want to be the cause of someone's perplexion (Is that a word?). But, there are people who see movies just because of a favorite actor or actress, regardless of what the movie genre is, would you say?

CTP has cool concepts packed in a playability that is colder than the North Pole.

Oh I tried alright...and tried...and tried.....

The user interface was so crappy and turgid that I basically threw up my hands after 100 turns. The units, techs, and wonder are either so blatantly overpowered or blatantly derivative it makes the game almost unplayable.

At least it taught me the lesson never to pay full price for software again.

Well, what do you do then? Play the demo? Or are you referring the price drop that comes after a year or so after release?

I'm sure he's talking about that.

And of course bargain bins. Although it's risky to wait that long. Some games never seem to make it to the bargain bin.

And you can always buy used games using ebay or something

Well, that's the only popular complaint with which I can agree about CtP1. If you were the first to build the London Exchange wonder, everyone else was doomed, no matter what.

And I thought that the CTP1 UI was intuitive and user friendly and is superior to both the CTP2 and civ3 interfaces...

"Maximize city" buttons in CtP1 were good, but nothing beats building multiple queues in CtP2, i couldnt do without it.

Well fortunately most good things from CtP1 remain in CtP2 - except the message system which is still far superior, IMO, in CtP1 - I still miss CtP2 messages occasionally. Other than that, though, CtP2 does have the great queue management and other great things .
