I think it would be interesting to have such a thing. Palaiogos', Fairline's and Curt's discussions are always interesting, and then it wouldn't be OT or thread-jacking. And the news thing is useful.

Well, I think the solution would be to be active, news editors post stuff whenever anything happens, and I think it would be kept going, as evidenced by the activity in this forum.

Um... Maybe, but it's not like it's some sort of massive banner or anything. In fact, the icon is so small that the entire name "Scenario League" doesn't fit on, and I'm not sure the letters C2SL are enticing enough to lure people over here. Have you ever visited some other forum just because of a funny civgroup icon someone sported?

No it doesn't. The only addition would be the CivGroup news, which can only be posted by assigned news editors. There will not be a new forum. New forums are only applicable for demogames, because they need to have private conversations to prevent the competition from eavesdropping. There are civ2 succession game and multiplayer groups, for instance, and they only have the forum as listed in the civ2 section.
Why would we need a new forum anyway, isn't one (two, if you count the hints/tips/guides subforum) enough already? And a private forum would be counterproductive altogether.
If we want more direct control over the SL forum, we need to ask for new mods (considering techumseh and WarVoid are AWOL).

I really don't think the Sleague is the right place for this. We'd end up with every designer in their own little corner. With the forums turning into everyone's little homepage and showcase. If we want to achieve something like that, I think a "Great Library" initiative is better. Have a topped index thread with links to all those creator's threads.
quote: 3. Strength in numbers. Remember when we had that Apolyton Hall of Fame thread pop up and the comment was made that very few of us were on that thread or knew the people involved? Well by giving our group an identity beyond what we have now we could have a larger presence here at Apolyton. |
The reason we have such a small presence is because we all like it in our little cozy corner over here and most of us don't feel the need to venture beyond it (and most of the people in the other parts of Apolyton feel the same way).
If you had wanted to know the people involved, visit the OT forums (which some of us already do). If we want more votes for civ2 people, how about we actually vote for them!? DarkCloud posted the thread here for just that purpose, and nobody reacted (this time). It's like not voting, and then complaining about the government.
The OT has a massive crowd, and it's where the Hall of Fame was born. Naturally, that's why it gets the most attention there, and why a lot of the inductees are off-topicers. Many of them aren't even interested in civ...

I don't think an icon is gonna make any difference there.
I have nothing against this CivGroup, but don't think it's going to be anything more than just a fancy little icon and civgroup news.
I'm just trying to be practical and realistic, though I may very well sound a little pesseimistic and depressed, so feel free to ignore my comments.

Ok I sent a message. I felt it was prudent to use the CivGroup "contact us" message writer in the CivGroup forums.
If we don't hear from anyone in a day or two I'll try a more direct approach and just start PMing Mods or go through the community forum. Here's hoping.
Hello Moderators & Site Owners,
A few days ago I took it upon myself to create thread concerning the possible creation of a Civ2 Scenario League CivGroup in the Civ2 Scenario League forums. The link can be found here:
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...threadid=112629
Myself and a few others were wondering if it would be possible to create a CivGroup for our little niche much like the Spanish Civers and the Storywriting Guild have. We have discussed a few points as to the pros and cons of such a group, but I feel that more clarity could be given by the Moderators. So, if anyone could lend us a hand, tell us a little about CivGroups, beyond the FAQ's, and explain to us what benefit it would have for our talented group, we would be forever grateful.
I believe the motivation behind wanting to form a CivGroup is explained, at least partly, in the linked thread.
If you would so kindly, please reply to this message in the linked thread so that all of the Designers, the ones who spend so much of our free time here at Apolyton creating wonderful new ways to play Civ2, can here what CivGroups are all about.
Yours in Modding,
Harry Tuttle
EDIT: damn! a typo!

Got a directive from MarkG to set up an icon and a News Editor for the group. I replied that the editor and icon will be chosen by popular vote and availability of the editor.
So, first order of business.
Like any other CivGroup we need someone to act as facilitator of the news. This person needs to be available and be able to act as a collector and disseminator of the news. Who will be able to actively gather news, even if it is not announced directly to the news editor, and publish it? All it will take is some time, patience, and a bit of perusing and asking politely. Hell, we can have a whole news staff, but one has to act as head.
Please, only serious candidates apply (In this thread).
Second order of business.
An icon needs to be chosen. It needs to be the same size as all the other CivGroup icons, as MarkG has stated, and be a .gif, if I'm not correct. If you have one please post it. Multiple candidates, if there is no clear consensus, will be chosen by a poll, which will have to be posted seperately.
PLEASE, wait for a poll to be posted if it is necessary. We don't want spam galore.
Third order of business.
A seperate forum for civ creators is probably out of the question. As Mercator has stated the seperate forums are primarly for Diplogames. MarkG has verified this. I've asked for a little leeway in this as a way to relieve the burden of having a large number of topped threads clutter up the foums, but we'll see. It's all up to MarkG.
Fourth order of business.
I'd like to create a "Chamber of Commerce" for the Scenario League. I envision a group of people acting as goodwill embassadors to related sites and forums as a way to drum up talk of the Scenario League. Totally voluntary and totally non-demanding, this group will simply act as billboards and pervayors of word of mouth. Anyone interested?

So what exactly do you have in mind? You already have the Hints, Tips and Guides forum. If the stickies are really that bothersome, I guess they could be moved there. Personally, I'd prefer that the graphics threads remain where they are - one less mouse-click. However, the Graphics Workshop thread could probably be shunted to the other forum. Really, I can't see any benefits to be gained by creating a third forum.
