	Finding Alien Crossfire Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

I keep noticing quite a few people saying they are looking for a copy of SMAX and how hard it is to find. So I went over to Ebay to check availablity. There are six auctions going on right now for both new and used copies. Not over priced either.

Can just go to amazon.com and do a search for "Laptop Collection." It has SMAC, SMAX, and like 3 other games, all for only $20, which is probably the same price, or at least not much more expensive, than what you would have to pay for just SMAX on eBay.

In fact, it actually comes with TWO copies of regular SMAC. It has SMAC as a separate disc, then it also has the Planetary Pack, which is SMAC & SMAX on the same disc.

The only bad part about it is that you dont get any printed manuals. The SMAC manual is on the original SMAC CD, but the SMAX manual is nowhere to be found. This isnt really all that bad though, because you can download the SMAX manual online. (The link is around these boards somewhere, I downloaded it last night.)

I dont think a lot of the eBay copies have manuals either tho.

If anyone is wondering, the 5 games in the Laptop Collection are:

SMAC (2 copies), SMAX, Tiger Woods Golf (sucks! ), Red Alert 2, and SimCity 3000 Unlimited. I already had SMAC and SimCity 3000, but I didnt have unlimited, so it was still a good buy for me. Hell, I really would have probably shelled out $20 JUST for SMAX, so all the other games are just gravy.

Sim City 3000? Is that the good one? I've been meaning to get into one of the Sim City games. I think I'll buy this.

I've been looking for it at Fry's, But I think I'll go ahead and get it at Amazon- although I have to pay for shipping.

The Tiger Woods game isn't that bad is it? What year is it? I thought one of them (2003 possibly) had good reviews.

out of curiosity how much are they going for on e-bay? I've never been an ebay junkie, I wouldn't even know how to look for it. I've never been on their site.

okay, okay. I guess I should do it. We'll see how good their search function is...

edit: I can't tell if they are used or not. I've always been wary of things like ebay. I've heard of people running scams with Paypal and such. I think I would feel more comortable paying amazon.com even though that is more expensive.

yeah I already did it. not bad prices. I was hearing that alien crossfire was selling for higher.

In any case I already ordered the laptap collection. I also orderd the Orginal Baldur's Gate saga since my copy no longer works and I have yet to finish the game.

I had to stop before I spent more money

SimCity 3000 Unlimited is the one that came out before the newest one, SimCity 4. Its pretty cool, I play it every now and then. Its strictly a "builder" game tho. Every time I play it, I'm always like "Man when do I get to go to war with someone?" heh

Tiger Woods just sucks to me because I hate sports games in general and golf in particular. I dont like golf games period. It might not be a terrible game per se, its just that I dont like it.

There is about 6 auctions going on right now on eBay for Crossfire. They range in price from like $7 all the way up to almost $30. I say just get the Laptop Collection from Amazon and be done with it. No bidding, and you get 3 other games. Ordering SMAX from eBay atm seems like a rather dumb thing to do. Especially considering that even the $7 will probably get bidded up to at least $15 before its over.

Just pay $5-10 more and get a brand new copy and more games.

That might not be a bad deal, it comes with BOTH of the printed manuals AND the tech chart. I might would have bought that if I wouldnt have got the Laptop Collection, but I wouldnt give over $15 for it. You can download the manuals for free off the 'net and print 'em out yourself. Tech trees too.

I have the original manual. It's big and thick. just the way I like it.

I wouldn't mind having the expansion manual and tech tree chart (if they printed a new one).

Yea I have the original manual floating around here somewhere. Not exactly sure where tho, probably in the junk room. Would probably take me a whole day to find it..... So I'll probably just read the pdf one for a while.

They did print a new Tech Tree chart for SMAX... not that I ever use it.. mind you, I bought a still sealed SMAX about three-four years ago, back when they were overpriced on eBay, and paying 65 bucks was a good deal for it....

okay I got a question about alien crossfire. I don't have any problems getting it to run under windows XP. I don't get any error messages.

But I do have a problem with the sound. I remember having a problem with the sound with my old system, and I changed some ini line. The problem is the echo effect is drowing out the voice overs. The voice overs sound like ****.

Do I have to do something similar here?

And it seems like both games are in the same director, but they have different exectuables, is this true? Do they also have different ini files? I'm not sure I understand the distinction. If they are seperate, that means you can't play factions such as the university in an expansion game, is this correct?

I do have the latest patch. 2.0 I think. I also went and downloaded that XP compatability thing.

I haven't had much luck finding a no-cd patch. oh well. I changed the dsd and eax setting to 0 in my ini file. Let's see how that works...

cool it worked. This game can be strange. I didn't have to change those lines when I installed SMAC on my new system. But now I installed Alien crossfire, I had to change those lines back. strange.

In any case now I just need to learn the new rules. I wasn't going as great as I thought I should be playing the Cybernetic faction on the standard map of planet. I need to get up to speed.
