Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Or, going by the actavision trace, it could be Hacker or hacker 2.

If it's very hard to understand it's because it's midsummers eve here in Sweden, the number one drinking holidya weekend around here and I just poped in but happened to get stuck with this damn enigma!

midsummer! Gods - it doesn't really feel like ours has even started here yet

The activision thing is a good one i think(as Cap pretty much spelt it out for us as we are cr*p ). Something is ringing a small bell in my mind - but its too elusive so far........being in the right direction with 'valhalla' has also confused me a bit...........have a good midsummer celebration and drink lots of mead to the real gods

If I remember correctly, it was a choose your own adventure type game and had a computer called Homer in it.

YES, well done Dale!

It is indeed Portal. It's sort of an early Interactive Novel. The story is about an astronaut who returns from an experimental testflight, 100 years after he left. On his return he finds the Earth completely void of human live. Everyone is gone and most machines and computers have been dormant for years. Eventually he finds a functioning dataconsole which contains a program called "Homer" an AI story teller. Together with Homer he tries to piece together what happened. We already know the end results but the answer lies somewhere in the history of the database and Homer helps you find it.

You can also discover Portal for yourself, it's still a fascinating story almost two decades later.

Portal: A Dataspace Retrieval

Full credits to Dave for finding the answer.

And now, class dismissed!

BTW, for those wondering, I'm just copy/pasting a review for the game.

Clue 2: (Expands on the first clue)

Undeniably developers most underrated game, title is a complex and faithful PC conversion of designers popular boardgame.

As with developers other games, strong computer AI keeps the gameplay fresh and interesting even in the beer-and-pretzel design (a normal game here lasts 8-10 hours).

In addition to conventional decisions found in other genre games, title features a unique and challenging stock market model that truly is the best I have seen in games of this type (and, being a Finance person with a passion for genre, I've seen quite a lot).

Only stock market model I can think of is Railroad Tycoon 2, which doesn't seem to fit all the clues. I'll plump for it anyway though.

No and no. Though I will say one of the last two guesses is on the right track.

DrSpike:

The only game I've done clues for that was really easy was Pitstop, and then only because I had 3 hours before I left for Thailand. Other than that, all mine have been hard.
