IMO, the background and theme of version 5 are the coolest looking ones.

Version 6. I think you should update your poll over there since it's limited to choices 1-5...

While I was there, I checked the site a bit. Since this is partly a 'look' related remark, I thought I'd write it here even though it might be a bit off-topic.
The main screen shows options like Map = Candle'Bre/Seed/Random. Shouldn't you also provide a Map From File option? If you have a set map like Candel'Bre, it's not much coding to add new maps. I don't know if a map editor is possible or needed, but games like Dominions2 use provinces maps like what Candle'Bre uses and provides map files which can be edited by hand or by the program to provide for handmade maps. Since you're designing the Candel'Bre map, it should be possible to open that to modders too?

i like version 6 but i think you could still improve it. although easier on the eyes than the others it seems like there a lot of blank space in all the designs. personally i also don't like screens where i get away from the main window. i prefer popups or sidescreens where i can see both at once. and why does it say budgeting, not just budget?

Great feedback here, and thank you! MarkG....forgive the delay, but a news item has just been sent!

And an excellent idea re: "map from file" option! Gonna make sure our coders see this note!

More to come!

Poll edited. Sadly, I was unable to add an additional option, but since v4 had not received any votes thus far, I took it out and moved everything else "up" a slot to make room for v6. So...if someone wants to vote for v4...write in style, maybe?

Anyways, keep those opinons coming!

Hadn't seen V6 when I first posted. It's very beautiful, and more elegant than V5 - yet, V5 has more of a "special touch" to it.

Vel:

Way ahead of you. I'd already "modified" the map selection so it lists all maps/scenarios created, not just a static list of them. So when it's completed, you created a map/scenario in the editor, then save it and it will show in the list to load.

It's obvious you put a lot of effort into the different displays and they're very aesthetically pleasing. But useability should be a concern as well. I noticed that in several of the screen mockups the lower right percentage figures are difficult to read because of light shading.

If you look at the percentage bars on the lower right, you'll notice that the background is brighter for the upper left percentages and darker for the lower right ones. In some cases, the light shading effect makes the lower right fringe so dark that the black text becomes more difficult to read against it, and requires more effort and eyestrain (especially if you've been playing for hours).

Overall, very well done and I love the way it's coming along. Maybe the light shading problem is just my perception and not noticeable to others. But I decided to raise this point in the spirit of constructive criticism, and on the off chance that I'm not the only one who noticed this problem. Great graphics should be easy on the eyes and have function and useability foremost as well as beauty.

I'm looking forward to seeing what else you guys churn out. (beta soon? hint, hint? ) Good work and onwards!

Thanks for the comments. Some observations about the process.
What you all are seeing are the conceptual images from which we plan to finetune the issues of gameplay. At the moment they are more for presenting the look.

As an aside, the woodgrain look is something that has just come into being this past week. Blame this on the fact that I've been bored at work and since the game is still in the stages of development where we can quickly switch out art, it is not a problem to do so.

- Some of the screens are empy in appearance because we are still in the process of determining what needs to go on them so they have room to evolve. So the buttons are not in position, as well as ingame art that may be appearing as you make decisions.

- We are currently in discussion on the interface issues - As much as we'd like to limit screen jumping from the main screen, screens will still be needed to handle all of the info that we need to present. A lot will depend on just how much info needs to be presented based on the particular act you want to execute (For instance, we have a lot of potential diploactions that may need room on a screen - same with the Fate Cards)

Most of the type within the screens will be on the parchments, so we are looking at the possibility of reversing it out on the slider bars since it is actually part of the artwork

Alva:

The green section is there because it's a defined transparency in the game. Basically, something else shows through the green from the background. On that particular screen it's the tilemap of the city.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

On the province screen, the transparent map in the background is just stock art or the actual gameplay map? Because if it's actual gameplay map, then the woodgrains interfere with it and make it hard to see. But if it's extraneous and just there for art and atmosphere like sundial in the research screen, then it's fine.
