	noob game USA Increase Your PM Length

Hey ... I'm a civ veteran (since civ 1) who's not played much multiplayer, and never PBEM. I'd like to play a PBEM game against some person or persons who aren't too advanced of players, to get an idea of how this goes and to have some fun.

I'm in USA (Central time zone), and usually am online at night (6-8pm CDT to 10-11pm CDT depending on the day), so it will go faster if you're online at these times as well (this is -6 GMT i believe, so this is like midnight to 6am GMT roughly). I'd like to play with 1-3 others (2-4 person game), no AI, at first, with standard rules, minus the silly wins (diplomacy, culture), random map on tiny or the next one up, 60% water, either pangea or larger islands.

what do you mean by not so advanced players though? you mentioned you've been playing since civ1, wouldnt that make you an advanced player?

I mean advanced civ3 PBEM folks -- tho I suppose I don't mind much, but I've not played civ3 more than a dozen complete games SP, and never a game MP, so i'm sort of a civ3 noob ... and the game has changed an awful lot, so I don't consider my civ2 and civ(1) experience that useful.

So far I've had 2 people total respond ... i'll wait until tomorrow to see if anyone else wants to play and then i'll email everyone (or pm if no email option with details.

i've completed more than a dozen civ3 games in SP.. i never counted though

i can win on monarch and play on emperor, if thats any indication for what you're looking for. my email is sm at inethighway dot com

I'm sure it's fine, as long as you're willing to risk kicking my rear end early on. Civ2 I could beat on monarch level when I was in practice, civ1 on emperor easy, but civ3 i've never played well above regent. Go figure.

Im a rcent move up to monarch player with civ3, regent was becoming routine. Have played Emporer a few times but win more often at monarch, and find it less frustrating.

Im GMT though so if Id fit in with your times I dont know, though smelly knows me from other games and we seem to be online at the same times now and then.

Sounds good. We can start tomorrow perhaps - the player who directly emailed me offered to set up the game, so i'll probably just send information his way and then we can get going!

Go ahead and post your country preference. I'll go with Ottomans, or Persians if one of you all like Ottomans a lot.

Also should make sure to sync game versions -- is 1.22 good for all of you?

Actually it looks like 1.15 might be better version? Are you two able to go back to that?

a lot of people are saying they prefer 1.15 but 1.22 stops a lot of cheating, such as reloading from a single player save and being able to look at an opponents civ.

Of course Im not suggesting that what any of us would do just that 1.22 stops these things.

The Ottomans apologize for their slight of the Indians. No doubt they will be happy, willing partners in the spreading of the one true religion.

(Of course, both the Ottomans and the Indians having yet to discover "religion", not to mention "monotheism", this is an anachronous discussion)

EDIT Dont worry about my earlier question, I loaded the game and it must have had a small bug because the graphic for the city was all wierd, like a blob of metallic red goo. I thought Id been nuked for a moment

I reloaded just and it seemed fine, MF if you have any problems let me know and Ill replay the turn and resend it

Nope. Looked fine to me. Which is good since my words would only be backed by obsidian daggers right now and not nukes.

lol... nah, that was just the ottomans test firing our nuke ... apparently it works.



Seriously, my city looked fine. Horribly boring turn, I might add, turn 2 and 3 are pointless imho. Would be better off for Civ to skip through to turn 4, which is generally the earliest you can have a warrior pop (and when your worker is done with it's first turn if you set it to "road" a plains or grassland). But, that won't happen.

yes very short non action turns, typical at the start. some people will super-micromanage their early turns just to get an extra food/shield/trade, tedious stuff though
