Well, its true that the internet is not effective for getting real dates. Too many guys and too few girls. So what you get is Attention whores (just in it for the tease, getting told how pretty they are from hundrets of guys, they usually are not interested in rl dates), the serious ones get quickly scared away since they get jumped by like 10+ guys the moment they show up ...
+ if you meet someone interesting they usually live too far away for being really an option.

Best thing to avoid attention whores and the like, is going the old fashioned way with local newspapers or rl contact (also you get more atention whores in rl 1st contact but mostly easy to detect) for setting up a date.

Actually, internet dating is huge in places like NYC and other areas where people don't have enough to do the dating games. Get what you want without weed people out for a few years.

Flip McWho - it depends, really. It's like guys - when you want some rolling in hay, you don't beeline to that sweet girl with terrific personality because it's very likely that she will want some kind of commitment (although you would be very very surprised sometimes). Instead, you go for girls who make it a bit apparent that they're looking for fun.

Chicks do the same thing. If they just want to have a good time or whatever, they don't go for that nice well-mannered guy since he probably will want a girlfriend. They go for that a$$hole because they know there's no chance of emotional attachment there.

For me it works against me - I have the face of a choirboy and I am a nice guy so a lot of people make those kind of assumpations about me which are totally off the mark. Girls I manage to catch in my fishing nets - it's often messy because they come to me because they think there's a possiblity of something more long-term even after me telling them many times I'm not interested in commitment of any kind. Girls who are actually looking for some fun tend end up falling for me because I treat them well.

It still amuse me when I see those stunned looks on people's faces when they somehow find out about my 'conquests.'
