Duplicate post glitch Increase the size of your Attachments

What causes the occasional glitch with one's post being twinned?

Only the admin can delete the clone but I guess I've seen someone else just blank the duplicate in edit mode. Is this the best solution?

And BTW do they count as two in your counting system?

In most cases... double posts are caused by the person hitting the submit reply key more than once. I know that when things are slow, and nothing seems to be happening, there is a strong temptation to hit the button again.
Normally, the flood control feature will stop this... but when things are slow, you can get a double post.

Thanks, makes sense as my connection is definitely on the slow side. Indeed nothing seems to happen sometimes when pressing the submit key and one can panic and press it again.

BTW on the count issue, is it a random extra then?

that's exactly how I create those double posts

and so they, of course, count as two posts...

How about a feature that automatically deletes a post if it is the same as the one last posted by the same poster in the same thread? It shouldn't be too difficult to implement, and would get rid of all of those annoying DPs...

Hmm... I have to say that I like Shadowstrike's idea. That would, in fact, be the killer of (most of) the double posts. Though it would also take some time (5 minutes approx for a guru like Markos ) to programme, and MarkG has apparently been... busy lately. Playing the technical administrator here again , I'm expecting that hack to come, but not in a little time. Perhaps after the random quote system.

(You might ask, why do I want to say things before the admins do. Well, perhaps the reason is that I want to be a psychologist and predict people's behaviour. I like being the one who knows better.

AFTERTHOUGHT: Most of my double posts come in a weird way. I press the submit key only once, but I get a connection timed out error from postings.cgi and reload that page, sending my message another time. And it's usual in those cases that the first post appears actually when the next post is posted to that thread.

This is an important matter. If Double Posts can be stomped out, I'm all for it. After all, it is just a mistake..

If auto-deleting DP:s is possible, implementing it would be most crucial (and fun).
