Gripe about the moderation Support Apolyton

Ok, instead of posting this somewhere where it doesn't really belong, or in another thread, I'll take my chances and post directly at the source.

<center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
</font>In the past, when a situation came up like this one, the thread was closed. I have just acted in a consistant manner to what has been done in the past.
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>

That quote was by Ming in the now closed "So now bad taste is against the rules here?" thread, and it reflects perfectly my gripe.

Somewhere along the line, you two (Mark and Dan), along with Ming, have gotten the idea that you have to make quick judgement as fast as possible, and then stick behind that judgement, foolish as it is, until the bitter end.

In the debates that go on (if I can call them debates even...), the posters bring up several important points on the topic (whatever it may be), but you will never, NEVER change your mind.

Why? Do you think that if you change your mind on a topic, it shows that you aren't perfect gods that always gets everything right the first time? Well, we know you aren't that. Or maybe you thinking that changing your mind is a sign of weakness, that it's letting the posters "win" and you "lose"?

If you would actually see that we aren't a bunch of crackheads that are out to destroy the site, and change your mind on a few issues, you might gain some respect from the posters. And I'm not talking about respect for your hard work, because most of us give you that now. I'm talking about respect that you are human beings that are willing to see that they may occasionally act wrongly and take measures to fix things.

This isn't a personal attack on any of you, so please don't treat it as such. Just consider it.

Got spare money?

The problem is many of these judgements are subjective. There is no black or white, just shades of grey. Many rules are left intentionally vague and interpretations are left with the moderators.

So no, you can't say he's wrong closing the thread, even though you don't agree with his decision.

Yes, most issues do come down to a matter of opinion and interpretation of the rules.
And when it comes down to that, there will be differences of opinions. What you call "foolish" in your opinion, may not be foolish in other peoples opinion.
In the thread you mention, many people thought it was OK, and many other people complained that it was in bad taste and offensive... When I received a bunch of complaints, I reviewed the thread, and found some posts that could be considered offensive. I closed the thread.
Now, a similar thread was started shortly thereafter. I kept an eye on it, and the posts stayed away from the kind that many found offensive in the first thread. So the thread was left open, and the discussion continued.

I don't expect everybody to agree with my decisions or my opinions. That is reality.
And sometimes, I am wrong, and I admit it.

Again, you must remember that this is a private site, and it is not a democracy. There are rules that must be followed. And my job is to interpret those rules and enforce them. And, there is no way that there ever will be total agreement on actions taken. We try to do the best we can.

Suffering from ads?

*griping*

Wait a sec, this isn't a democracy, we don't get to gripe. We don't like it we leave, nothing is forcing us to stay here (or maybe something is ) If you don't like the moderation or anything else, LEAVE! You don't have any right to change it. Its theirs not yours. Posting here is a privelege not a right.

Now I'll actually read the thread

I never said this was a democracy. I'm simply telling you that this is a disturbing trend I've noticed, and am offering some helpful critizism before someone else points it out. (and unlike them, I didn't go into a fit of swearing rage)

You are welcome to your opinion that it is a disturbing trend. That's how you see it... fine.
Other people see it in different ways.
That's why it is an opinion
