Decrease in Transfer Speed Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

My brower has been having difficulties transferring pages from the OTF these past few days. It's taking aeons for a thread to finish rendering.

Has anybody else experienced this? Is the server slowing down for some reason?

It comes and go. Today, with a cable connection, it was downloading at 300 bytes/sec. That's when you know there's something wrong.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

It was actually better yesterday than Monday. On Monday I was getting "Connection Refused" messages from UGO (a good thing ) and Apolyton (a bad thing ).

Perhaps somebody at Gamestats should take a look at the server to see if it needs work.

The dreaded UGO ads definitely have something to do with it.

I know it because I use one PC behind a firewall and one unprotected. The firewall machine has no probs with the UGO ads, the unprotected machine slows right down when they come on. Go figure?

I am having severe problems connecting to Apolyton today, with multiple time out errors even loading a thread index. Traceroute shows that UUNet is having major traffic congestions with >1000ms response time to some of their nodes. Terrible!

I experience the exact same thing. From behind the firewall at work: No slowdown. From my home computer: Unbelievably slow loading of threads.

I can't say whether it has to do with specific ads, but anyway, it's been like this for about a week now. Any thoughts from the admins as to the cause of this sudden change in transfer speed?

Increase Your PM Length

It could quite easily be the result of a sudden summer traffic influx (and not just on ACS).

It should resolve itself within a few days.

Legman,

Maybe because you have broadband at work and not at home?

DanQ, glad to hear you think it'll pick up speed in a couple of days - that it's only temporary.

No, that can't be it. The connections in question haven't changed from what they were before the slowdown. Also, other websites load as they used to, it's only Apolyton that's slowed down over the past week - and only from my home computer.

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I've had terrible trouble accessing threads from my home computer over the last 48 hours. The pages just don't quite load.

It seemed to be okay this morning. What's going on? Could it be related to active banners like the UGO ones? They don't seem to allow a gap between actions for the page to load completely.

Full PM-box? Change here!

As I said, UUNet had some serious congestions along its backbone. So if your connection also uses the same backbone, then your speed would have dropped, just like mine.

After they fix the problem (might have already), then your speed should return to normal.

I am not sure about your other websites, Legman, you have to do a traceroute -- or ask somebody to do it for you -- to find out.

Inflate your Upload Space

Very stangely tracerout (tracert www.apolyton.net) does not seem to indicate a problem when things come to a halt.Maybe the program (perl ?) running on the server takes to much time and so the server can not respond.Maybe when someone is making a new post the server needs to index other posts .That could be very consuming if there are a lot of posts like on the off-topic forum.
If the case was just low transfer speed if could be fixed by disabling images !But it is not !
