In Roshem
Guardinian forces had first arrived in Roshem several days ago, but at the time they had been unsure of whether they were allowed to engage in offensive operations or not. They had solved this by circling around the central business district and taking up positions around the highway intersection where the A-7b met the A-50. Here they had been sitting around for several days, awaiting further orders. Now the waiting was over...
Further south, in parts of the city still held by FCL forces
Thousands of leaflets were falling out of the sky. An FCL trooper picked up one. It was shaped like a small folder. On the front side, it said, "Message to General Frankychan's soldiers."
Opening it, he found the following message printed inside:
quote: To general Frankychan's soldiers
It appears the General, in his wisdom, has decided to abandon you in your hour of need. Now you are stuck in this Godforsaken place, surrounded, outnumbered, outgunned and out of luck, with orders to die for a cause that is most likely already lost.
You deserve better than that.
-And you still have a choice...
Guardinian forces are advancing on your positions and should be in contact shortly. If you lay down your weapons and approach us peacefully with your hands clearly visible, we can offer you the same protection we would provide for civillian refugees. You will be given food, shelter and medical attention, and a choice of where to build your future once this war is over. Anyone who wishes to seek asylum in Guardinia will be allowed to do so. Those who wish to return to Frankychanland will be detained as prisoners of war until an agreement on exchange of prisoners can be reached. If this is your choice, then rest assured that details on exactly how you were captured will not be revealed to FCL authorities.
Now is the time to make the choice, and this choice could have a very radical impact on your future. Will you choose war and carnage and will you walk away and still have a chance to live long and happy lives in peace?
We await your answer. You have 24 hours from midnight. |
The soldier turned the leaflet and discovered that the backside also held a message. This one was somewhat more ominous.
Printed on the backside of the leaflet was the image of a Guardinian heavy bomber dropping its cargo. Printed below was the following message:
quote: "If we do not have an answer within 24 hours, we will return and we will be carrying bombs instead of leaflets." |
Message from Guardinian Central Command
To all allied forces in Roshem
Be advised that Guardinia has offered protection to any FCL soldiers who surrender. If you encounter anyone trying to take us up on this offer, we would ask that you please turn them offer to us if you're not willing to take them yourselves. FCL forces in Roshem have been given 24 hours to consider our offer. After that, we will support any attack necessary to eliminate remaining FCL forces.
Message from Guardinian Central Command
To Azani Command
Do you have any information concerning numbers and locations of any civillians remaining in the parts of Roshem still occupied by FCL forces?
We are considering how much of a heavy bombardment can be employed here. We're thinking if it can save lives, it might be worth sacrificing some buildings, but we will of course help rebuild anything we destroy once the war is over.

Just Outside Ronya
"Damn, commands in a buzz, enemy nations attacking shipping lines, beacheads appearing and enemy forces pushing lines back in the southern zones"
"We still got orders to use any means?"
"Yep, big red or big black button first .. hmm.. i vote red"
"I vote black"
Faint vibrations stem through the tank.
"Guess the others chose red aswell, see i always win, why do you even try"
Some 900 tanks were beginning a massive campaign of bombardment against the city of Ronya, buildings everywhere collapsing under the incoming shells, streets plunged into darkness and water flooded the streets as roads were left with gaping craters. Several dozen choppers appeared overhead, a handful darting off into the city, scouring the streets with minigun fire laying to waste dozens of civilians and the odd few soldiers. 4 Jets blazed past high in the score, their payload tearing down through the sky each leaving massive 500m wide stabs to the earth below, decimating entire industrial blocks.

Tel Azan
The city had been largely quiet since the Hive air blitz had sunk the Auldoninna flagship in it's harbour and the city had been brought back under Hiverian control, for the most part anyway as most Hive soldiers had carried on south leaving behind just a small garrison who were exchanging pot shots with the Azani militia. The militia seemed to be becoming more confident with each day that passed that their faces weren't stomped in the mud. That was about to change.
"We've overhead now"
"Check; weapon armed, altitude correct, weather fine, wind still. Command do we have a go?"
Radio cackles
"You have a go"
"Affirmitive, commencing drop 14:49"
The H-29 Transport planes rear end opening and a gigantic bomb slowly slipped off its tail and into the air, it's descent to the city below against the backdrop of a bright day, the sun gleaming off its silver exterior.
The bomb known only as X to all those not involved with creating it or the Chairman was designed to solve once and for all the problem of Tel Azan.
The impact could be heard throughout the entire city as a cloud billowed above, thick enough to block out the sun and yet slowly settling over the city unseen to the eye as it did so. The transport and it's escort flew away, a sick grin on the odd pilots face but for the most part they were just blank, nothing special had happened in their opinion. Satellite images showed otherwise ...
Hive
"Chairman pictures are in, the device hit 1minute ago"
"Show me, and attempt to contact our troops hiding in the bunker"
The images flickered across entire walls as dozens of seperate images from across the city showed citizens writhing in agony on the floor, choking out blood. The bomb was designed to render a city inhospitable for decades. The fine but heavy powder clung to surfaces such as buildings until it was brushed off by contact, the particles would then hopefully from the skin work their way through into the body either by a cut or through any pore. Once inside the body as little as 0.01micro grammes per 5kg of mass would be lethal within 2-3.5 minutes depending on the person as the respiratory and nervous system came under assault.
"No word from our troops sir, the air vents must have carried it throughout every building"
"Proceed"

INC, Ceroo
With the High Admiral in the field, Minister Gage- Ceroo's defence minister and Vice Admiral Marks had taken over his office, in the heart of Ceroo's miliatary command. Gage had ordered the wall removed, so that the office joined into what had become the 'war room'.
"Minister, the High Admiral sends word from the western landing zone- they have secured the village, and a section of the highway, all of the troops and light armour are off-loaded. The other transport, with the tanks cannot land until a temporary port is established".
Minister Gage looked at the map, to where the Vice Admiral was indicating. "Good, when they're ashore, we're moving the third fleet north, right?"
"Yes, minister. We will be able to strike military facilities around Ali'i, the Guardinian fleet may stay to provide air coverage in north Azan, their fleet has a carrier, plus a few 'copters with the other ships".
"It shouldn't have to come to that, I think the First Minister is going to try communicating with the General, make him see sense. Has intelligence informed us of progress within the Hive?"
"Nine out of ten agents executed or missing"
Gage lowered his head. "The tenth?"
"He's got in, but is still unable to get close to any key facilities- their security is top-notch".
"And the first fleet?"
"Entering the waters between FCL and Hive territory any time now..."
"What's the guy's name? Landeros?"
"Yes sir, Captain Landeros, of INS Endeavour, he's leading the fleet"
"Signal him. Tell him that no further Hive vessels are permitted to cross the straits- we must make those waters ours..."
INS Endeavour, First Fleet, north of FCL
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we have new orders from INC"
"Captain?" came the joint reply.
"We're to launch an assault on Hive shipping, the subs aren't doing enough- so it's our job again."
A murmours of agreement were heard around the bridge.
"Signal the fleet- we split into battle groups, orders are to seek out and destroy any Hive vessels in the strait".
North-West Azan
Several hours had passed, still nothing.
The Colonel had plenty of time to think as his unit lay camoflaged at the roadside, 'The guys in the south were probably praising the efforts of the Sapphire Guard cutting off supplies. Truth was, there weren't any. Nothing was coming down the road from Frankychanland. Faulty intelligence? A trap? Or was it just that the FCL forces simply weren't getting any supplies, or reinforcements?'. Either way, there was more time than expected, a chance to get the few tanks in the other transport ashore.
Roshem Airport
Colonel Mols looked north through the binoclars, toward the river Emet. It was his first time the control tower, he thought it was only fair that he shared watch duties too.
"****!"
"Sir?" came the inquisitive reply of a young Nooslandian Captain.
"There's hundreds of them!"
"Who, sir?"
"It must be Hive forces, are they coming this way?"
"I'll tell the colonel" the Nooslander picked up the telephone and dialled through to the colonel to rely the message.
Mols walked to the southern window, he could just about see the port in Guardinia. 'We could really use the Emerald Guard tanks' he thought, 'Are the Guardinian transports coping?'
The captain approached him. "Sir, the colonel needs you in the command centre right away"...
Mols nodded and rushed down the stairs. 'If the Hive were coming to Roshem, the airport would be the first obstacle', he thought, 'well, I didn't join the army to sit around Newport all day to practice shooting...'

It has just been brought to my attention that there have been two separate attacks on the major Frankychani cities of Frankzapa and Franksinatra, both in the same five minutes, approximately two hours ago.
It is believed that a form of quick-acting nerve gas has been used, but as the gas has not yet dissipated, we are as of yet unable to find out much more.
Emergency services are currently unable to assist, and the death toll is expected to be in the tens of thousands at least.
We will keep you posted on any new developments in the situation.
In other news, Gootenstein beat Turdthwaite 27-0...
OOC: Well, you know those 'military advisors' I sent to Azan...?
Please don't all immediately assume IC that it was me.
Only the Azanis should legitimately have the faintest idea of my involvement.
Oh, and for you ADU, League of Armed Cowardice types, I'm doing this for you. Trust me.
And, yes, I did get consent from Frankychan first.

Provisional Command, Roshem Airport
"Ah, Colonel Mols. Well met," a big man, balding, in his late 40's or early 50's, greeted Colonel Mols. Mols hasn't seen him before. "I am General Vijinee, norminally in charge of the operations around the airport area."
Mols looked relieved. "Ah, a general. At least we got the ranking problem sorted out." He thought to himself.
"Colonel, yes, there's a substantial Hive armour column heading this way. Not that we didn't expect something like this, anyway," Vijinee pondered for a while, "What I don't understand is, everybody knows charging at a defended urban area with tanks is suicidal, right? So why are they doing this?"
Mols said, "Indeed. Plus they don't have any air cover, either. They are as good as dead."
Outside, groups of attack helos were flying into the setting sun, which tainted them an ominous red, before they turned northward.
"Red Hawk 5, this is Grey Wind 3," one of the helo pilots spoke into his headset, "target straight ahead, distance 1200 meters."
"Roger that, Grey Wind 3."
"This is Head Eagle. Commence attack."
The helos turned slightly and started descending towards the ground. Roughly half of them began to make a giant sweep to the left, and the other half began to make a giant sweep to the right.
Far ahead, the armour column, noticing the impending doom, began to disperse and move erracticly. Yet, the anti-tank missiles would still come. One peeled off first, then two, then a hailstorm. Scores of tanks were hit, with explosions rocking the ground incessantly.
Then, just as suddenly as it began, it ended. The attack helos vanished into the distance, leaving tens of burning wreckages dotting the landscape.
