1640 AD City-Planner Poll Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

We should have our City Walls built in about 9 turns. We need to decide what to build next.

Our current tech state is that we are researching Astronomy to get to Navigation to build a Caravel and get off this crummy island. If we adjust our Tax Rate each turn (along with Xinning, we can maximize Science 50 while keeping NET Income at zero (30) and Luxury at 20 on non-Xin turns. I think this gets us to Astronomy in about 12 turns. Navigation will take about twice that.

We may want to try to bribe a passing Caravel with a Dip. That would take more gold than we currently have, I suspect (depends a lot on who stops by with a Caravel, too). Should we consider selling something?

If we don't find a way the the mainland soon, we're doomed!

So - What should we build after the City Walls (if only to sell it)?

Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

Diplomat sounds good here.... it will be a useful unit for first contact when we get to Navigation anyway. Embassies, stealing tech etc.

I intend to play when the poll is ended.

Re: 1640 AD City-Planner Poll Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

It may be that this candidate for the posting of Science Minister has a brain which is a little addled by spending too much time by candlelight trying to figure out how we are to advance our simple civilization, but I checked our history books and found this interesting anecdote...(please note who posted it )

3. There will be no Ironclads or Diplomats built.

It makes this strategy posted by...... Cavebear!......seem a little bit questionable

Full PM-box? Change here!

You are absolutely correct, we forbid ourselves Diplomats. I had forgotten that. Thank you.

Have you considered being President/Consul? I think you would be good at it and new blood is always valued.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I have considered it and will likely take on that role at some point in this game, just not this month. While I think I can handle Science, this is not a good time of year to be taking on more then that.

Come summer or early fall however and watch out
On thinking further about this, in the previous Demo game I had intended to hold each position before running for the leadership, and as a result I have been Minster of Science, Foreign Minister and City Planner. Along this line of thinking, perhaps I should have volunteered for Minister of Trade this month instead ?

Suffering from ads?

Well perhaps you can take one of the many functions MWIA has so bravely accepted...? City-Planner would be a good one.

Got spare money?

Yes, usurp my positions! Strip me of my titles! Fire my staff!

No seriously, if you want something you are welcome to it. I'm not quite sure how I'll cope with everything right now. Consul is easy though - less than an hour's worth of play and writing up. It's only ten turns with a single city right now.
