Why aren't forum users allowed to deleted own posts? Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

It seems to me that sometimes, this could be rather useful. Especially in cases of x-posting (which still occurs, if rarely). But also in other cases have I found myself wishing that I could totally deleted a post that I have made.

It would give us posters a little bit of power, and we all know how the admin and mods like to rule omnipotent.

yeah, I'd like such a feature... so, double posts or quadruple posts or whatever could be deleted, which would make the forums look.. not so stupid

For the pure spammer, it would be a great feature.
You could post 100 messages in a quiet forum that nobody would notice at first, and then go delete them and cover the crime.
Not that anybody here is that desperate for a higher post count

I actually like that feature. It would be too easy for somebody to post something really hateful or crude, and then delete it. Granted, you can always edit the post down to nothing, but their is still proof you posted something.

And Dookie... if you really do have a problem with the mods and admin here, there are many sites that would just love if you posted there

well, Ming, there could be a feature included that the post count is decreased by one whenever a post is deleted, wither by the admins or the mods... what do you think about that?

Well, I wish we did have that feature

But even if we did, my second reason is a good reason for not allowing it. It's just too easy as it is now for somebody to post something way over the limits, and then edit the post... If they could make it totally go away, it would even be worse

HUH! HA HA HA HA!

But seriously... Yes, most are. But there are few who like to test the limits... and then a few more who go way beyond those limits

But thats exactly the reason a "delete" feature would be useful!

Think of it... You're in a bad mood and pissed off as hell (for whatever reason). You dont think of what you write... you're so goddamn bitter at the whole world, that you write something that's off-limits.

Later, your mind clears up. You're ashamed of what you posted, and want to delete it. Unfortunately, you arent allowed.... Of course, you can always edit the post, but if you were allowed to totally make it go away, it would be even better .

Yeah... but the damage is already done. You can always edit the post and make you apology, like many people do now. But in many cases, it is too late because people have already seen the "post".
