Sure, we might lie to them before that, but we don't have to actually break an agreement with them. The reason is that this isn't going to be a fair fight.
So up until the point our REX is complete and we have sufficient hoplites to stop them, we have to lie, yes. Once that point is reached, I see little use in playing the game any longer, assuming we can rely on PAL. |
What is your definition of a "complete REX".
Are you talking the initial core and first ring? Or something more substantial?
We NEED to be ready to start choking operations at a minimum when the Republic deal is over. Choking can begin as simply as cutting off tech trading, but will eventually have to progress to a more substantial commitment.
We have hoplites, we are ahead of CDG on the power graph, we need to STAY that way and prepare to begin a choke when the research deal is complete.
If we are ahead on the power graph AND STAY THAT WAY, we should be able to repell any kind of retaliation, especially before Invention.
So we will need to choke as we are building up to make sure CDG is ripe for a kill when we sledgehammer them.

Having me in charge of a chat might not be the best idea. Whereas I would try my damnest to attend any chat with PAL (sched or impromtu), I would try to stay silent unless a decision or confirmation of something needed to be made in chat immediatly. Behind the scene, I would be talking the ear off the FAM reps head. Now if PAL would then prefer to deal directly with me instead of the FAM, I would do so, but I would make sure that I had a FAM rep available for hints, tips, pointers and to tug on my leash if I get to aggressive or friendly. If a FAM rep was not available, Anything in that chat would be considered "unofficial".
The "stance" that I would like to see FAM take towards PAL would actually be one where we let PAL call the shots. It would make them feel better about themselves and could lead to a better relationship in the next finals. As someone said earlier, we don't need to be the Alpha Dog in this partnership. This one is not a battle to the end, but only to a designated point where the Alliance will disolve and the game will move on to finals (but the warm friendship will carry over).

A) He is MUCH better at mIRC than I. What is all that "+oo sets mode @Donegeal" all about anyway?
B) More level headed. I tend to go off on a tangent now and then or just come around and argue some strange new idea.
C) Has more expirence playing turns in chat. I have only played one complete turnchat by myself (SPDGII - so it was three turns).

I can hit people with a club really hard.
Actually I think my ability to see a strategic oppertunity is my biggest strength. I can capitalize on any mistake.

I would still be very active, just not as active as I have been. If you notice, I have been posting alot lately and expressing my opinon on anything and everything. My frequent posting has been almost a campaign in and of itself.

Normally, it would be bananas all the way, but there seems to be a severe lack of them in this game. I guess I'd have to go with whats available. Grapes. (hiccup)
[Time out]How's that for playing both sides?![/Time out]

Well, if you can find a banana leaf, it would be the Jungle Gazette. But with the lack of bananas come a lack of banana leaves. I'd have to go with the Messenger. (Wow! I can do this politicing thing!)

The most important thing is what the position is designed for, playing the turn. However, there are infered responsabilities of a Consul that are just as important. Keeping the forum organized. Cooling tempers if and when needed. Settleing disputes, and of course making game related desicions when needed in a timely manor.

7: What are your feelings towards tech points? |
I am not a tech point counter. I think that keeping track will only cause problems. I see tech point in two ways. One, whoever can do it faster should do it (except for Philo, we must be the one to do Philo) and forget points completely (Its an ALLIANCE for gods sakes! We don't need to squeeze every red cent out of them like an AI). And two, we take the more expensive techs in trade for some of that industrial worker action.

Is it OK to sign an NAP with CDG knowing that we are going to break it? Yes or NO. |
Depends. To reference my previous post, is the team okay with it? If we are, then yes.

I'd at least sit in on chats I could make, but I'd probably leave it to the ambassador (or, if they're not there, the FAM) to do the majority of the talking. I might take the lead if it was necessary to hold a chat without either the FAM or ambassador.
As for our stance: With the alliance, basically our teams are linked at the hip, and we should be quite friendly, and open with most to all information as well.
I'm not sure if this is what you mean by stance or not... please tell me if you're asking something else.

I imagine Donegeal is a better military strategist than I am; I don't have much experience against human opponents.
I'm impressed by his thorough city placement plans. That's another area I think he's better at.
He probably doesn't have an extreme granary fixation.

As far as the Consulship goes, I think it's being on top of things. I have a pretty good memory (especially for unimportant things ) so I can hold the state of the civ in my head pretty well in any game I'm active in.

Maybe go back to Vice Consul (unless Don wants to kick me out for running against him. j/k) I might also consider the Interior Ministry, except I'm not sure much help is needed there with Krill as Deputy whenever GK's too busy to do orders (or is booted off the broadband connection he was stealing ).

5: What's your favorite paper? |
I prefer white, letter-sized sheets. White has a nice clean look, and letter-sized sheets are necessary for printing. Thick paper has a nice feel to it.

6: What do you see as the most important job of a consul? |
Generally getting things organized - getting all important decisions before the team (posting them for discussion/polling, and trying to move it along to come to a decision if there isn't much time), and getting all other unimportant issues (e.g. micromanagement) decided by the Consuls or by someone else (e.g. MoI).

7: What are your feelings towards tech points?
They're a good way to keep track of whether a civ is pulling its weight in an agreement. In this particular game, I wouldn't sweat them too much, as PAL is going to be our main trading partner and they're probably going to be capable of pulling more weight.

Should we try and adapt some of these strategies to our style of play? |
We're already pursuing a sledgehammer/castle strategy, which I think will go well. We might want to consider using our Hoplites to "choke" once we break off relations post-Rep. The deadline to start on a "Dagger" is already past, I think.

Probably, as I want to serve as Consul sometime and this summer would be a good time to do it.
