4380BC: I attack Machu Picchu with a 12 stack. It of course gets slaughtered but inflicts heavy damge on the defenders. I then attacked with another 12 stack and take the city easily.
Rename Machu Picchu to Tamerlinian.
Game crashes
Load autosave
Game crashes again
Load original save....
4380BC: Do everything I already said over again.
Saved game and prayed
ended turn
Game crashed
Maybe someone else will have better luck ending the turn...

Strange, i went back to 3400BC and waited to take Machu Picchu on 4320BC instead of 4380bc and ended turn and it doesnt crash, but i did get the crashes you mention if i take the city on 4380BC.

EPW, I have downloaded your save and ended the turn. Crash!

I have loaded the game again and made a /reloadslic before ending the turn and it did not crash.

Before starting playing your 15 turns, make a /reloadslic just after having loaded the game this will intialize the SLIC files and prevent some errors.

In case you would not know how to /reloadslic:

- Type '
- In the text box type: /reloadslic
- Press Enter to execute the command

To check if the /reloadslic has been correctly executed, go to the message tab, all the messages should have been erased.

RE: Crash

This may be due to the fact that the game initially started out with the 1.30 files instead of the 1.30b files - and then switched over to the 1.30b via a reloadslic - plus a change was made in userprofile.txt, which I'm not sure if it would affect anything or not.

I tend to view reloadslic as a temporary fix for a gamefile, and it does not actually resolve what is causing the problem. I've never had longterm success in playing through a gamefile once I had to do a reloadslic. The file loads up after doing a reload, plays fine for a while and then crashes again. (But I'm no expert on the matter either..).

The changes from 1.30 and 1.30b are numerous. Several SLICs were renamed for organizational purposes, as well as several adjustments within the SLICS

Any time I make a change to a SLIC file, I start with a new game. I have had success with numerical changes in the txtfiles though, but I also tend to try to stay away from making those during a game too.

Yeah thought as much Im prepared to tough this one out and see how far we get with it, although its obvious we may get other problems. Just have to reload slic each time and see how it goes.

Well reloading slic does allow me to finish the turn. However the only way I could play without the game crashing was by reloading slic every turn....

4360BC- Met the Cathaginians ( Purple) and gave them 100 gold in hopes of getting their map later.
The Cathaginians ask us to leave their land and I accept.

4340BC-Cathaginians refuse to exchange maps

4320BC-Finish research of ceremonial burial and begin monothesim

Does the slic even work properly if its reloaded every turn? If it does I could live with it and maybe it will clear up but I doubt it.

I must admit I don't know what to think about it. The game might become more and more unstable the further we go and I am afraid that a /reloadslic will not always solve our problem as hexagonian is suggesting it in his post. May be should we start a new game now we know we all need the 1.30b version.

Gilgamensch is stuck in Germany with the influenza and should be back monday. May be should we start playing again when he is back.

I just realized someting that was probably causing the problem I had changed some files in an attept to get the AI to expand more in ultra-gigantic maps and forgot to change it back.......

Hopefully all is well now in the game.....

Got spare money?

Tamerlin can you play for one more round at least and we can see if we get any problems now EPW changed his files back?

or better EPW can you play your turn from 4600BC again and just edit your posts and add new attachments? so we have a cleaner save.

One week to catch up with the threads...

Welcome back!

The previous game failed because we were not all using the same version of the Cradle, you should then check your version of the mod first, it must be the 1.30b.

I think that we can keep the same settings... if we are not afraid of being wiped out of the map.

I was expecting hard times with a Very Hard setting only and as far as I remember Hexagonian's has also written somewhere that he is not always winning at such high a difficulty level... but why not.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

My last game at 'Very Hard' (gigantic, no raze, mostly landmass, 8 civs) took me about 600 turns to catch the AI and then another 100 or so to surpass them on the powergraph. I can't win on pure conquest with a no-raze' rule, but I had the upper hand on tech at that point in time, and I was winning every battle in the field.

More importantly, I had enough forces to counter any AI incursion. So I guess you could call that a win.

(I'm really not an expert - I'm better at figuring out just what needs to be Modded...)
