Well, we are now close of being completely isolated in trade relationships. There are only two nations that will accept to trade with us: Egypt (no interesting deal possible) and England.
In the past (1255 AD), we have missed the opportunity to buy saltpeter from Babylon before they embargoed us. Indeed, the only window we had was 1250 AD.
The same scenario may await us with England. We have to strengthen our bonds with them quickly, if we want to avoid the same fate as with Babylon. Don't forget, the countries we deal with are much less likely to embargo us (they demand a much higher price when a country suggests the embargo). Besides, the more we trade with them, the more they have to lose if declaring war on us. Hence, we may keep a partner at peace. Something we really need.
Besides, England has wine, and they'll sell it for 24 gpt. Now, when I open the save, I see most of our cities revolting, most of them wasting precious workforce in entertainers.
We don't need that in these troubled times. If we get wines, each city with a marketplace will get two happy faces from the luxury (it would be our third lux), which will allow us to allocate two entertainers in the fields. According to my calculations, we would actually gain money from the operation (1 gpt). My calculations may be wrong, as I didn't actually buy the wines to experiment, but they at least show the cost will be very little, if any, and we'll get many more shields and food.
I say we don't hesitate this time, and we buy wines to the English for 24 gpt*, before pressing "end turn". Let us not make the same mistake we made with Babylon.
*It is very important to trade wines for gpt only. No world map, no nothing. Elizabeth is treacherous as hell, and it will fit her profile to cheat on us on whatever one-shot payment we made. Not even the slightest one-shot payment should be given to her, as it would only favor her breaking the deal.
