Civil Disorder Popup Question Tired of ads?

When does the Civil DIsorder popup give the choice "zoom to CITY"? and when does the popup not give that choice?

Thanks

I could be wrong, but isn't the choice of having 'civil disorder pop-ups' in player preferences?

If the disorder can be quelled by making a few entertainers without starvation, you get the three choices (one of them "Give them some entertainment"). If starvation would ensue by making entertainers, you get only two choices (one of them "zoom to city"), presumably so you can choose between rioting and starvation.

You are not suppose to let it get to that point. Check cities with grown to se if they have more unhappy faces than they have happy ones.

Use F1 if you have too many cities to keep track of.

I always zoom to the city and micromanage the citizen placement. When faced with massive, starvation-inducing rioting (i.e., loss of multiple luxuries due to outbreak of multiple wars simultaneously), I'll ignore the disorder until I can work with sliders to try and alleviate enough rioting to make specilists viable ot to quell outright the dissent.

I used to, but almost never anymore. Disorder is a trigger for me to pause, and examine the state of my empire and citizens. Exception: 75-100 cities or more, and then I usually am in the midst of some kinda dreadnaught domination play, and will just assign entertainers to non-core cities just to keep up the pace of play.

75 cities?

I'm not a heavy micromanager. I play my games fast. I don't like getting bogged down managing cities. I like building things, terraforming, and conquering things.

Although using entertainers does have it's limitations. Mainly with regards to war weariness. War weariness can get so bad in my games sometimes. Entertainers don't do ****.

I'm with Catt. Wait until the production phase is over (so never click "give 'em some entertainment"), then check to see if it's an isolated case (entertainers) or whether it's affecting your whole empire because of WW or lost luxuries. If the latter, then play with the slider a little so that your core cities are ok and then use entertainers for the rest. Slider use will often not help your farthest flung cities at all because of huge corruption, so you have to use entertainers there until you can rush a Marketplace and get the benefit of the extra happy faces.

One way I'm often caught is when I'm researching at a deficit and a luxury deal comes up for renegotiation. Because the AI is so unfair, you are often paying gpt for the luxury even when you give one in return. But if you are making negative gpt when renegotiation comes up, the AI won't accept any gpt from you. Unless you can give techs or cash, you have to drop the deal and come back to it in your turn....meanwhile, you can get some disorder. The only way around it is to keep track of all your deals and make sure you're not researching at a deficit the turn before one expires.

They are not necessarily unfair, they understand the the lux they are given you is worth more to you than the one you are given them is to them.

Set your research down before making a trade offer, so you will have the cash to offer. After the deal, set it back to the previous level.

Doesn't anyone else just use the city governers to handle happiness? If you do that, you never have cities in disorder. Who cares if pop dies... it'll grow back. Damn humans breed like flies!

Pop is power, if I am at over 21 pop then I may not care. If you let the gov manage happiness. You will lose income and shileds as well as food.

Note the first time you would go to having more unhappy pop than happy. What the gov does is to make an entertainer. This cost you production and can be the difference between making that unit or that wonder.

This will be more painful as you move up in difficulty.

Hmmm... I don't have the game handy right now, but can't you tell the governers managing pop to emphasize food, shields, or gold? If you're worried about your production, tell them to emphasize shields.

hmm. So perhaps this is why I have trouble competing at the higher levels.

Exactly how much commerce am I losing by assigning entertainers rather than adjusting the sliders. I never really adjust the luxery slider much. Usually 10%, no more than 20% when I'm in democracy.

Perhaps this is a key part of the game I'm missing out on.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The problem isn't so much not using the lux slider as allowing the entertainers. And hence began my taste for cathedrals
See, every specialist is a guy not working a square. And when you remember only worked squares count in building bonuses as well...every lost square is a big drain. Once I solved that...then I found I could compete for wonders, trade came easier, even still being able to build the military I wanted on top of all that

Anyway - try it out, it has to fit with your style ot be any good

But that's like saying the AI charges exorbitant prices for techs because the tech is worth more to the human. It's not because the luxuries are worth more - it's because the programmed routines at higher difficulty levels tell the AI to offer extremely unfair deals.

My point about the disorder was that unless you are aware of when your deal expires and can turn the slider down beforehand, you can be caught since you will have negative gpt when the popup comes and the AI will not renew (without other acceptable things to offer)...which can throw you into disorder before you have a chance to re-set your slider and do the deal.

As far as I know, the AI values luxuries the same way at every level. Roughly speaking, each luxury is valued by the number of happy faces it will produce in the empire. Therefore, lots of cities means a luxury is worth more (more happy faces across the empire). Lots of cities with markets and many luxuries already under control means each subsequent luxury is worth more (marketplace effect on luxuries). If you play an OCC or very small empire game, you might be surprised at the deals you can get from a much larger AI -- oh the satisfaction when one human luxury happens to be worth two AI luxuries.
