There were about 3 REALLY good chances that some players made very stupid errors with (Donovan, I'm looking in your direction). Those all should've been goals, and were perfectly set up.

im here - was gone for the weekend, only caught OT of the game sunday night. flamers stole one last nite. each series a team has stole a game from the sharkies. but dont expect to continue winning this way flamers. if you allow 52 shots in a game you will lose, more often than not.

and yea, officiating was bad. a coupla penalties shoulda been called, one on cheechoo i think when he tripped up a flamer and one on kipprusoff, when he slashed a shark, and then another one kipprusoff when he took a dive.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

That 52 shots number was deceiving. Anyone who watched the game could tell what San Jose's "strategy" was -- pepper the net with shots and sooner or later you'll get lucky. That's exactly what happened.

The Sharks had a very small number of chances, but a high number of shots. The vast majority of their shots were from like 10 degrees, from 10 feet away, right into Kipper. All they're doing is boosting his stats.

If I were you, I'd be more worried about Nabokov. 11 shots, 2 goals in the first period. If he's going to keep playing like that, it's gotta hurt extra bad to know that you traded Kipper for one of the last 2nd round trades for next season.

The Flames outplayed the Sharks, the Sharks played a boneheaded game just peppering the net with shots and hoping for flukes (which they certainly got), and combined with the worst officiating I've seen for a long time, they almost made it.

Unfortunately, when you play a real team, that just doesn't cut it.

And, as this first game has clearly demonstrated, Kipper owns Nabokov. Not even close in terms of skill level.

Nabokov sv %: 89.1%
Kipper sv %: 94.2%

I know a Leafs fan that uses similar logic-- According to him the Leafs have been the second best team for five years running. Even if the team eliminating the leafs is also eliminated early he can concoct rationales considering the " real strength' of the team, injuries, luck, voodoo, and the phases of the moon to promote HIS team. Acouple of years he would even claim that they were really the champions .. .

That was a horribly-referreed (sp?) game. In those situations you have to call things evenly, or one team gets no respect, and the problems continue. They also should have given Brashear the automatic game-misconduct for leaving the bench in the first mess - he may not have caused any problems that time, but you just know he is going to later - use the legit opportunity to get rid of him.

There's more to a team than goalies, plus Kipper only joined the team in late November, and missed over a month due to injury (where about 12 of the flames losses occured alone...)

If we're going to play it that way, look at it as the Flames being so good right now that the only team that lead a division in the Western Conference that they haven't knocked out is the sharks. And they're next.

You're right, it's not. Nabokov had more of a chance than Kipper did, especially not having to bounce back from an injury.

so then nabokov also faced more shots, and stronger opponents which is why his save percentage would be lower.

Asher: I know you love Kippy, but consider that Khabibulan looked invincible with a <1.00 GAA and a Save % of something like .985. But not anymore. Same thing could happen to Kippy.

The Flyers victory over Tampa last night shows they deserve all the credit for taking down the Leafs. A lot of people have said the Leafs sucked when the reality is that they were good, but the Flyers were simply better and potentially better than Tampa. Of course the Flyers will crash in the next game.

We should be so lucky -- whenever Kipper lets four or more goals in for a single game, the next three games he only lets one in.
