That 52 shots number was deceiving. Anyone who watched the game could tell what San Jose's "strategy" was -- pepper the net with shots and sooner or later you'll get lucky. That's exactly what happened.
The Sharks had a very small number of chances, but a high number of shots. The vast majority of their shots were from like 10 degrees, from 10 feet away, right into Kipper. All they're doing is boosting his stats.
If I were you, I'd be more worried about Nabokov. 11 shots, 2 goals in the first period. If he's going to keep playing like that, it's gotta hurt extra bad to know that you traded Kipper for one of the last 2nd round trades for next season.
The Flames outplayed the Sharks, the Sharks played a boneheaded game just peppering the net with shots and hoping for flukes (which they certainly got), and combined with the worst officiating I've seen for a long time, they almost made it.
Unfortunately, when you play a real team, that just doesn't cut it.
And, as this first game has clearly demonstrated, Kipper owns Nabokov. Not even close in terms of skill level.
Nabokov sv %: 89.1%
Kipper sv %: 94.2%

That was a horribly-referreed (sp?) game. In those situations you have to call things evenly, or one team gets no respect, and the problems continue. They also should have given Brashear the automatic game-misconduct for leaving the bench in the first mess - he may not have caused any problems that time, but you just know he is going to later - use the legit opportunity to get rid of him.

Asher: I know you love Kippy, but consider that Khabibulan looked invincible with a <1.00 GAA and a Save % of something like .985. But not anymore. Same thing could happen to Kippy.
The Flyers victory over Tampa last night shows they deserve all the credit for taking down the Leafs. A lot of people have said the Leafs sucked when the reality is that they were good, but the Flyers were simply better and potentially better than Tampa. Of course the Flyers will crash in the next game.

Kipper is good . .. very very good---he had an amazing season despite his injury time-- I expect the flames to take the sharks down in 6

so then nabokov also faced more shots, and stronger opponents which is why his save percentage would be lower. |
how about this - your team isn't going to the Stanley Cup finals this year.
