Inflate your Upload Space

I can't see any screenshot.

Would the file happen to be something like vbrun.dll? I think I remember I had to download an additional file from Gothmogs site to get it to work.

Yes I think it was that one.
Do you have a link?

Sorry dudes I am a way to stupid to get this mini-screenshot into a small file size.
I am not even able to use paint!

Full PM-box? Change here!

I just went through this myself after being forced to switch to XP. The missing file is "VBRUN300.dll".

Do a Google/Yahoo/? for "VBRUN300.dll download" and you will find any number of sites where you can get it for free. Copy it into the same folder as CivCity and you should be fine.

Suffering from ads?

I have a smaller problem. I use CivCity to assign trade routes and commodities but they don't remain in the game when I boot up the save.

What am I doing wrong?

Enter the AD-FREE zone

This is the first time I've tried to assign commodities and trade routes and it seems to work fine.

I assume you have picked the city you want to have trade routes, activated the trade route/routes and selected the city/cities you want to trade with. Are you perhaps forgetting to then click on either Save City or Save City & Get Next City?

EDIT:
The only other possibility that I can think of is that CivCity has somehow become corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.

I had a conceptual problem with trade routes. What is the protocol for assigning those?

Say Pyongyang is trading uranium to Beijing in return for oil (believe me, this happens every day in real life). So how would I set that up?

Would I set Pyongyang to have uranium and then set up trade route to Beijing in uranium?

AFAIK the sections of CivCity where you can create trade routes for a city and where you modify the commodities supplied/demanded by the city are quite independent.

Assume that you are modifying city A. You select the 3 commodities that it could at one time supply and decide which ones it can still supply. Do the same thing for the 3 commodities it demands. These selections determine what the city can supply and what it will demand at the start of the actual game and are subject to change by Civ2. They have nothing to do with any trade routes that you may set up using CivCity.

Similarly, the trade routes you set up for city A have nothing to do with the commodities city A supplies. They are simply trade routes with cities B, C and D in commodities X, Y and Z, respectively.

X, Y or Z do not need to appear on the list of commodities that city A supplies unless you specifically place them there. The only way this affects the game is that, if there is a trade route between cities A and B in commodity X, a player will not be able to establish a second trade route between A & B in commodity X.

To answer your question more directly: Pyongyang does not need to supply uranium in order for you to set up a uranium trade route with Beijing, you simply select uranium as the commodity for the trade route. For appearance you can certainly let Pyongyang be a supplier of uranium, either past or present.

The two sections in CivCity really are independent of each other.

BTW, I don't mean to pry, but what does your brand new avatar depict?

I think it's because WinXP includes its own Visual Basic runtime libraries.

We may possibly be dealing with differences due to whether
1. Win XP was installed before the computer was purchased.
2. Was installed later with no other version of Windows present.
3. Was installed as an upgrade of an earlier version of Windows
4. Was installed over a corrupted version of XP.

I had to use #3 to fix a corrupted version of Win ME by installing XP.
CivCity did not run until VBRUN300.dll had been downloaded and a copy put in the CivCity folder.

I'm pretty sure that there was no VBRUN.dll file with the Win ME that had been installed when the computer was bought. I can recall a number of popups with "VBRUN.dll not found" messages.

Thanks for your help. My avatar is a character called "The Cheat" from the www.homestarrunner.com website. He is small, yellow, and cannot talk except in a few muffled "meep!" noises. And he is well known for cheating.

Recently they tried to propose a prime time cartoon show, Cheat Commandos, but I haven't seen it on screen yet http://www.homestarrunner.com/cheatcommando.html
