You might have seen it in other forums using UBB... We just installed the "Who's online" hack which shows which users are online at that moment and on which part of the forums they are

a summary is shown on the front page of the forums as well as the forum summary pages, with the full details being at http://apolyton.net/cgi-bin/ubb/online.cgi

Thats pretty neat.

Typing this in to see which guest I am.

Didn't help very much. Any ways if it uses a cookie it expires as soon as you shut the browser off. Can a cookie do that?

the script uses the cookie set by the forum to store your username and password

just by reading the forums you're tracked, you dont have to post first...

By the way, I just noticed a problem with the guest count: on page 2 it starts to count again from 1 instead of continueing where it finished on page 1.

Thue, do you have your username and password stored in a cookie? If you didn't set that option in your preferences I don't know how it would know who you are, but Markos should be able to tell us more about that.

the script simple reads the existing cookie with your username and password(which you have set to store) and whenever you access a forum page it makes an entry in a log(which covers the last 30 minutes)

Lazarus, on icq messages pop up on you, making sounds, etc. in this case nothing bothers you...
and if you dont want to accept private messages you can turn it off and on from the preferences(accessible through your inbox)

Something does bother me. The appearance of my username, advertising my presence, bothers me. ICQ bleeps can be eliminated by placing my speakers on mute, or switching off ICQ. I await further instructions on how this new source of bother can be eliminated.
