Hey BigFree, I think you are the channel owner for all the rooms, from #apolytonisdg to #isdgfam and the like.

Is there anyway you can do joint ownership of the registration or at least add a default channel mode of +s (secret) to all channels?

I just rejoined the server on Apolyton. Evidentially everyone left so the channel disappeared. When I came back, it set the last known topic and the default channel modes. Unbeknownst to me was that Trip's topic was in the channel for TWENTY minutes before I finally realized what was up and set the channel mode to +s.

This means that ANYONE joining our server during those 20 minutes could have done a /list command that would have shown our channel AND the topic.

What was Trip's topic? 'Apolyton ISDG: Operation Destroy Ruhrpott is in Planning '

Normally this isn't a problem, as people are in the channel and we remember to set the channel modes to secret. We have had a few random people wander into #isdgfam because they were curious (and we don't have the channel setup to a default key) because they run /list, see the channel and topic and enter because they are curious.

So I have 2 favors to ask:

1- BF, please set the default modes to all channels you own to +s.

2- DO NOT POST CLASSIFIED INFORMATION IN THE TOPIC

I had noticed this a long time ago. The thing that I had done, was to add a mode setting line in my Preform, so that the room would be properly secured, after I had entered it..

I sould have said something then, but didn't think much about it...

NOTE: This is one of the reasons to have an operation name that doesn't explicitly state what the operation is doing.

BF, I don't think that is the Problem. You need to go in and set the modes for the channel to have +s added to it, when someone gets into it.

I don't think that will do much. :/ So far as I know, there's really no way to secure the title of a mIRC channel unless someone can be in the room 24/7. We'll just have to stick to less specific operation names.

Yeah, mlock should be the one.

But does it protect the title if no one is in the channel for there to be modes set?

Rephrased, it is. Not only is it depressingly unoriginal and lacking in style, but it entirely gives away the whole point if even the title is accidentally leaked.

Now, the truly insidious thing to do would be to purposely leak or announce a false operation name suggesting that we were there to STAY and conquer on the turn our forces show up.

I 99.9998% think that GWT or any other team would not be trying to see what out topic is in the first place. Also, it's obvious that GWT lacks a cetain amount of skill/knowledge of how irc works. The same can basically be said about GCA as well.

It's much ado about nothing...:shrug:

You are probably correct BF, but still we should be carefull about topics.

Thats pretty much closes to loophole.
