Team opinion on this would somewhat define our options with CDG.

Good idea, Kloreep. It never hurts to solidify our team's stance on a particular issue.

I'm going to vote no, that we should never consider breaking a treaty we have ratified. A good reputation is an invaluable resource.

All things must come to an end; sometimes prematurely is best.

This is a war game for the most part. Deals were designed to be broken in the game; that's why it pushishes you a bit for doing so. The game also recoginzes the fact that the agressor has the upperhand; hence it gives defensive bonuses.

Every treaty/deal will have to be examined before it's just broken. I voted "Yes" because while I would not like to breaky every treaty; there are times when doing so is in your best interest by a long shot.

If you break a treaty and you still "lose" then the others will laugh at you and evn hold it against you n the future..

If you break a treaty and you "win" then the move you maed, while at first greeted with severe hostility,it will later be met with admiration for such a bold move that ensured your victory. As long as you don't cheat, winning the game is the top most priority; not whether we broke a treaty or not.

Avoid it at all costs.
But our first responsibility is to ensure Apolytons success, which may mean a treaty is to broken.

More importantly, dont put us in a position where we have to make a choice.

No 15 page legal documents & a team policy of never signing any NAP's.

As far as the issue that has raised this is concerned (signing a treaty with CDG that we may well break so as to not have them catch on), I say no. Our survival is paramount in this game, but at the same time we are Ambassadors for Poly as a whole. If GCA was in a position of domination in the ISDG and had still used the suspect tactics it has so far, the victory would mean nothing to any but themselves. We must prove ourselves the best through means that are as honourable as possible.

I voted no, but I would change my mind if our survival was threatened by a treaty we had signed.

I voted no, but certainly there are some situations in which breaking treaties would be necessary.

Well, this poll is in the context of a regular foreign policy move. Certainly, in extraordinary situations where the very existance of the team would be at stake, we'd reconsider. Of course, I think we're smart enough not to sign treaties that would doom us.

Since we effectively are/will be allied to PAL, then we have no choice over the issue of CDG.

longer term still, our reputation is one of our better qualites, so why should we lose it?

Although it makes my job with CDG harder, I think we shouldn't break treaties unless certain situations arise. I don't think that CDG is one of them. We can use enough fancy language or RL exuses to keep them occupied for a while. If I can get some help writing up some deceptive letters, I think we can decieve them enough.

Look

With CDG just agree to another 20 turn extension for right now. Hopefully by then we will have a better idea of when the attack will happen.

If they keep pushing for something longer, just tell them we have a policy of not doing game long NAPS.

And tell them the game is early and right now we want to kep our options open.

Then we just sting them along on extensions until right before the first sign of hostilities.

Then we dont break anything.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

or maybe make a declaration where both teams agree to NAP until the republic was researched by both teams? This will take more than 20 turns for sure.

I'd rather not break a treaty. It does hurt reputations in the community. If it's absolutely necessary for our survival then yes, we break it. But if it's not absolutely necessary...

Where exactly does this poll say this?

It asks, very plainly, if the team should ever consider breaking treaties. It has no stipulations about whether it's good for the team or not.

It's a yes or no question with no room for qualifications.

Perhaps another poll with more options would allow you to choose an option that reflected your opinon.

Your opinion on the matter clearly indicates a yes vote was warranted in this poll however qualified it may be.

Put an end to popups!

It is unqualified, and it is more general and meant to apply to future circumstances, like when we may be dealing with the French and Germans in the future and trying to get them to backstab each other. But it can always be re-polled in the event of treaty-breaking perhaps being needed for survival.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

This will be one of those polls... The poll served the purpose of promoting some discussion, and forcing at least some of us to make a decision on where we stand. However this poll result is of course not necessarily final. Attitudes and situations will change, and this is an elimination game. PAL (or F-P at least) has on many occasions stated that practicality is their preferred trait to honour. Of course they were saying this to convince us to break the NAP with CDG sometime, but one must consider that they themselves hold that as a truth too.

We can trust them, but not so far as to leave ourselves very open. I have no doubts that they would give serious thought to going for the kill over any pacts made. We must remember to consider the same.
