	Why doesn't the PBEM work? Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

I have a problem starting multiplayer games. I click on the multiplayer button on the main menu, then I get the options of:

1)Internet
2)LAN
3)Hotseat
4)PBEM

The internet works fine, until I try to enter a game, which I can not enter. The game starts for the rest, but not me. Since I'm using XP, I think it is the built in firewall.

Never tried LAN, so I don't know about that.

And whenever I click on hotseat or PBEM, the game closes back to Windows.

Does anyone know why this happens? I don't care much for the internet or LAN, but I want to start a couple of PBEMs. How do I do this?

	Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Dunno about the firewall, d/c from the internet and disable it (start > settings > network connections > right click your connection icon > properties > advanced > untick the box)

Then reconnect and see if this has an effect

It exists to Windooze if you click PBEM? That's odd - I'm too on XP, and playing PBEM works fine (well, except that Misfit is beating me up!).

Tested reinstalling? Made sure you've got the latest patch?

I have a dual install, patches 1.15 and 1.22, and I have restalled alot of times with conquests, and nothing new happens

Maybe you have to re-install Civ... but PBEM should work fine though as long as you don't start the game (and thus don't have to go to the multiplayer screen). Just load from the main screen and it should open up like a regular game.

Sorry Krill, no idea what the problem is. Though I have heard of this same inability to start PBEMs happening with PTW.

Krill. As with the PBEMs you're in me with, as long as someone else starts the game, you seem to be fine. I know that sucks, but at least it works.

Windows seems to be the problem with you being the host, you say you're on XP but which version? Also, have you installed any service packs and do you have any non-windows firewalls running? And lastly, whos your internet provider?

MZ seems to be fairly good, making passable posts.

And, yeah, it sucks, but at least I can play against others, and have a chance of winning. Unlike the AI, where it seems possible to win from any position. Remember "So very cold" ?
