Guardinia Central Command, later that same morning
General Armand Braddock, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and third in command of Guardinia's military after the President and the Minister of Defense entered the situation room and walked briskly up to the group of men and women already present. He walked straight up to General Kimberley, who commanded the Guardinian forces currently deployed along the border to Western Apolyton. "General, what's our situation on the northern border?"
"Sir, it doesn't look too bad. Our forward patrols and observation posts are all reporting that the Auldoninnans are showing no signs of hostile intentions. To the contrary, we are receiving several reports of Auldoninnan officers and enlisted men smiling and waving to our people, trying to be friendly."
"Hmmm." Braddock considered that for a while.
Things were certainly looking better than a few hours ago, when Guardinia had thought a major attack could be incoming.
When the Auldoninnans launched their initial attack on the FCL/Hive forces, it had at first not been known that Guardinia was not the target. Expecting the worst, Guardinia had gone on full defensive alert, bringing every missile system online and scrambling every available aircraft, including strategic bombers ready to go on grand tour of Western Apolyton. In Guardinia City, the National Emergency Evacuation Plan had been activated and president Fowler had been virtually dragged out of bed by the Marine Guards and placed on a helicopter heading out of town at slightly above the specified top speed. As he raced across the rooftops of the capital, the President had been preparing to place a call to his Cerooan counterpart to inform his allies that Guardinia was under attack.
When it became clear that none of the Auldoninnan aircraft or missiles were headed for Guardinia or any known allies or neutrals, the frantic launching of aircraft had stopped and most of the planes already in the air had been recalled. The rest of the military had been ordered back to whatever they were doing just before the alert and the president and other key staff had been rushed back to their normal positions. Basically, Guardinia was trying to act as if nothing had happened.
As he studied the updated situation overview, Braddock quietly wondered how many people knew otherwise...
[OOC: I told you Guardinia felt threatened by those bases!
It appears we almost had a war over them because we didn't know what you guys were up to over there.]

The Cerooan government has also noted the ease at which a small nation such as Western Apolyton could be invaded by Hive forces and calls on Guardinia to retain tight border controls to the north.

The leaders of Western Apolyton call on our neighbours to help defend us agaisnt any possible invasions. |
Guardinia offered you an alliance, but you made it pretty clear that you were absolutely not interested in even talking to us at the time.
quote: Our land is open to any nation who is willing to protect us, such a young and weak nation we are. |
We tried to warn you about the possible dangers you were facing, but you acted like you couldn't care less...
quote: Guardina will you patrol our waters, will you lend your strength to us now we are threatened. |
We were willing to assist you in any way we could and we said so, but you didn't seem the least bit interested at the time. Now it seems to us you pretty much brought this new threat upon yourselves by first opening your nation to Auldoninnan bases while Auldoninna was making enemies all over the place and then allowing the foreign bases on your soil to be used as staging grounds for offensive operations against one of your most powerful neighbours.
We tried to warn you that we didn't think this would be in your best interest, but you basically told us to get lost.
Like we said at the time, you are free to make your own choices. But this also means you some times have to live with the consequences...
Our forces will be staying south of the border for now.

Guardinia agrees and is moving National Guard units in to replace those regular army units withdrawn last week. Surveillance and air patrols are back up to full 24/7 operations. Better safe than sorry...

Ceroo salutes the Guardinian government for its swift action and pledges any assistance required in bolstering the northern and eastern borders.
[ooc: As the border between Ceroo (San Antonio Bay) and Guardinia is open, Guardinia's safety is as vital to Ceroo as any other part of the nation].

Protesters in Western APolyton have taken to the streets demanding the removal of all Nuclear and Biologicla weopons. Auldonina troops have been put on alert as protesters attempt to enter the military compounds,,,,, |
Ceroo is shocked that Auldoninna would be careless enough to transport nuclear and biological weapons half-way across the continent to leave them poorly defended bases close to a war zone.
We insist that information be given to all neighbouring nations as to the nature of these weapons in case they fall into the hands of these 'protestors'.
