1740-1766AD The Caravel is Discovered! Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

Our undaunted and persistant researchers have developed the plans for a vessal that can ply the ocean waters with impunity! They call it a "Caravel". We have set about constructing one on these vessals according to their plans. Soon, we will be travelling the ocean as we wish! Hail to the researchers (who are now set about some concept of "University" which they describe as a collection of geniuses studying things beyond our High Schools). I don't understand this idea fully, but it seems that our brightests minds will teach each other new things and they will gain new ideas from that. Whatever!

We have grown. From a size 8 city in 1740, we have become a size 11 (from 12 because we just established a band of hearty Seetlers) , though it seems that our city lacks sanitary accomodations and that is about all the citizens we can manage for the time being. There are now 660,000 of us now on our island. Our researches suspect that some new method of dealing with all the slop of 660,000 people needs to be dealt with before we can grow larger, but they aren't sure how to do that just yet.

No ships of strange people have passed our shores in these years.

I give you now some depictions of our success and progress.

Looks good Cavebear, the Science Ministry is especially pleased to see the development of "Navigation" and look forward to "University" and beyond.
