	Possible security failure? (hacked profile) Remove this text

Mods, this is a serious issue. I got this PM from Tripledoc who has been banned. Normally, banned people should address directly to the mods, but I believe his message could be of public interest.

Isn't posting PM's without express consent also banable?

Tripledoc should communicate directly with a mod if he has a serious issue. A thread is not the place for this type item.

If you wish to carry his banner then you should PM a mod and not start a thread.

If there is evidence of a hacking threat then that is the best way to handle it as well.

Yup. That's what I suggested, but he insisted that I post this, probably to "save his honor". And it's probably a good time to check your profile against such kind of stuff.

Well, he closed the thread under the assumption that it was about the reason of Tripledoc's ban. I think the real issue here was the fact that he believed his account to have been hacked.

Surely it is the opposite - a PM is only public if both sides agree.
Otherwise anyone who wanted to publish PMs they had, could, as they would fulfill the "one side agrees it is public" requirement.

For those that missed my post in the other thread, I want to make it clear that Tripledoc was restricted for "a non valid email address in his profile", like many other people have been and are continuing to get nailed for. In Tripledoc's case, it was because his mailbox was full so messages to it bounced, making it seem like it wasn't valid. His account has now been cleared and he can post again.

As far as his claim of his account being hacked... while we do take those claims seriously, in many cases... it's just a joke on the posters part. From this end, no mod or admin changed it. Why anybody else would go through the trouble of hacking into a Apolyton account... just to change a home page listing.

While I believe he isn't playing a prank, and that he didn't put the home page listing to a porn site in his profile... There is really nothing we can do at this time. If it happens again, we will look into it again, but it's next to impossible to track that kind of thing down. I will suggest Tripledoc think back to see if anybody he knows that might want to play a prank had access to his computer

I had the same problem on Counterglow, and I'm pretty sure it related to a virus that changed my homepage, refused to change it back, and then changed it on Counterglow too. I deleted some files I thought were responsible and the problem stopped.

In most cases like this... the problem usually ends up to be on the user side. Who knows what happened... but it's almost impossible for us to track it down.

I still think it's pretty funny that the guy causes a scene to be made about questionable porn being linked to his account when it turns out he was banned for 'administrative' reasons and he could have found that out by being patient and PMing Ming.

btw, why would he have immediately checked the linked website? How many people would think to themselves... 'oh fudge, I've been banned. Better go check my website link!'??

Tripledoc is only a semi-regular poster, I guess he took his ban pretty seriously. When I get a message from Ming, I usually know in advance what it'll be about.

Yes. When you PM someone, your trusting that they won't give out the information. Its just like talking to them in a back room.
