We need to decide what to research next.

Horseback Riding should be gifted to us from PAL
Writing should be gifted to us from CDG

Math.

It should give us another chance at a SGL (since our continent has Ivory, there is no reason why the other continent would research it this early).

It will allow construction of Catapults.

It will also allow us the ability to build Zeus (yes I know that we have the Pryamids as a prebuild but I like to have the tech to switch whenever we feel like it rather than waiting for us to get the tech later).

Mysticism is cheap. We (or PAL or even CDG can do it for us). There is also only a small chance at a SGL with it because it is cheap. Cheap techs get poped by huts and makes for good filler tech at any time.

CDG will take longer to research CoL than it will take us to do Philo. Might as well do a more expensive tech as a filler.

Wealth is nice, but we would only be able to generate enough to upgrade maybe 2 warriors to Swords. Flat out building Swords is more viable when still researching.

Writting is coming free. Not a chance.

Horse is coming free. Not a chance.

Thanks for starting this poll!

I also vote for math. Philosophy is 4 tech points less than CoL and we need a filler. However, CDG hasn't finished with Writing and CDG has a weaker research engine than we do. To properly fill in the gap we need a tech that's about 6 tech points, but there is no such tech available to us.

HBR will be given to us. We either do Math, Mysticism, or we bank gold and later do Myst.

I think we should go math. I think we'd waste too many turn on banking gold and may still get Myst too soon. Math will guarantee that we don't get Philo before they get CoL, and Donegeal gives several good points: Math gives us Cats. Math gives us SoZ. Math gives us a possible SGL.

We would have done Math after Philo anyhow, so why not do it now?

Euh - can you explain this? I don't get it. What has the other continent have to do with this?

You only have a chance of getting a SGL if you are the first to research a tech, irresgardless of contacts. The other continent would effect this as a SGL would be impossible if someone of the other continent has already researched Math, which I can see no reason for.

Ah, OK. Do expensive techs give you a better chance? If not, we'd better try to be the first in researching multiple cheap techs.

No, Sci civs have a 5% chance for each tech that they research first. Non-Sci civs have a 3% chance. All of this is irregardless of tech cost. The problem with Myst in this regard is that it is very cheep and because of this could have been either researched by the other continent or poped from a hut. If eaither happened, then there is no chance for a SGL

No I know that a 5%chance at a SGL is NOT that big of a deal, but altealst it is a reason to do math over Myst.

NOTHING to do with it giving us the ability to (perhaps, one day) get my lovely ACs.
