City Advisor: Settle, cultivate or explore? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

With the arrival of 1792AD, a new city, Utica, has been founded on the coast of a new world. Little exploration has been done yet, but the coastal land is predominantly grassland, with bountiful fish supplies; two very good signs.

Right now we have a great opportunity in front of us - a NONE Settler is on the good ship Endeavour exploring the new coastline. There are three courses of action clearly open to us at this time.

Firstly, we can choose a site and build a new city along this fertile stretch of coastline, further cementing our hold on the lands. Secondly, we could land and help to improve the area surrounding Utica, something that will doubtless boost the speed of Utica colonising the rest of our New World. Thirdly we could stay with the Endeavour on her journeys, seeking a better spot to land and establish a city.

As ever there is a write-in option, for the Official or citizen who is cleverer than your humble City Advisor! Finally there is an option sacrificed to the Great Yellow One that brought us safely to land.

3 day poll.

...and with the official bit out of the way, I think we should settle straight away. Personally I like the unshielded grassland right next to that new fish tile.

I also voted for settling asap, but I would like us to try and pick the site that could potentially be a 4 special site (south of where MWIA suggests)

If we stumble across a 4 special site, that's good. But we should take the first good site we find rather than spend a lot of time looking for the perfect site.

I would like to move along the coastline at least a couple move squares so we can see what else might be in range of a new city but can still drop the settler off to establish a city with the fish in it.

Agreed, but I would hate to settle the city and find out later that it was a 4 special site in the years to come when we uncover the surrounding tiles. My point is to settle the city where there could be a 4 special site, and if it is there great, if not, no problem

Just a thought as I know this poll is done.

A four special site is great in the early game. Time is a problem for us now. It might be better to plan for more size 6-8 cities than fewer, carefully chosen and sited size 20 cities. Even if there were a four special available, I would argue for building at least two cities there rather than one.

It is time to go look up some old DaveV threads on ICS'ing I think.
