Your powergraph looks pretty familiar Googlie. I thought I had it in the can at around this point. Hell, I even had the VW and HGP, and the Spartans on the floor (despite a real mess around the ruins - its hell attacking through fungus with 'liths around before D:AP, but its was better than having them come to me all the time)

Then it went so wild.

I should make some screenshots to show just how many worms and locusts I was facing. Enough to eliminate all my bases except the last one that drowned.

I'm so lame - getting a negative score on my own map.

I'm having the same problem. I've crashed 3 times at 2190. I tried resetting all the crawlers just before I hit turn complete but that didn't help. Help!

Well, if there's no way around the crashing (I played till 220x without crashes) then I'll accept incomplete games for the score.

You'll need the latest SMAC patch, but I suppose you have that anyway

I played this game just for fun and found NO FUN in it as I won so badly, they even couldnt get ANY unit xcept a few probe teams to my bases..
And those probes were there only because I was growing tired and it was no fun to fight them..
Will upload my turn (MY. 2228) and some pics in a few minutes..

There's what I did:

1.No cheating (stockpile, retro-eng etc.) except SE switching to low Industry when adding Crawlers to SPs.

2.Didnt try to go for IA ASAP!

3.Didnt give any tech for free to AI - instead I required 25 credits from them, which made a total of 125ec/tech (Miriam doesnt pay)

4.After Rectanx, commons and max number of CPs (nowhere to expand anymore), built 6 MWs, which are VERY good units indeed if running Green - they add new numbers to your army, create ecs & dont require support if in fungus (where they actually were ).

5.Run Green/Wealth and instated Demo only after all CPs were settled (~2170).

6.Instated FM in 2226 as maintenace costs for mu Facilities became annoying.

7.Attacked Santi and then Lal with MWs - Santi was dead in 2180 other status at 2228:
Lal - 1 base (didn sight it, so my MWs went to other place)
Hive - 1/2 bases (that half which by the Mount Planet)
Gaia - 2 bases
Believers - 1/2 bases (that half on other continent)
CEO - conquered 1 base, but then lost it due to lack of reinforcements. Seems other half of Morganites has been eliminated..

8.Built almost all SPs except 3 from which 2 I later captured & am going to capture the 3rd too!

It has stats of 3-1-1 and when it attacks, game says: "hand weapons"
Also it moves like MW
I captured some 7-9 of them - as unit theure COMPLETELY useless..

I've gone the ak the conquerer route and didn't even try building. Its going fairly well considering by 2200 I still don't have IA, MMI, or Planetery Econ.

I Skipped all SP's exept Virtual World and set about conquering using 4-1-1's and infantry transports.

I now have D:AP and look forward to cleaning up and linking up.

Lal eradicated. Santi one site is gone (haven't found the second landing yet) Yang one site is gone (holding action on the second until Noodles are in plentiful supply. About to take Dee's one site complete with Weather Paradimg and Command Nexxus.

No real action as of yet against Morgie or Miriam. (But soon)

Jamski probably tried to give this NL unit a superior weapon. However, there is some hardcoding here that won't let a CMN give NL's superior weapons, thus it defaults to a weapons class of "3".
As far as the icon is concerned, it is located in the same pictures file as the MW's, Battle Ogres, and other units. I believe it was originally intended to be the icon for the Cloudbase, but once the developers realized the AI's couldn't handle Cloudbases appropriately, they shelved the unit.

BinTravkin - congratulations. I think a momentum approach is probably going to work better than my failed builder-hybrid attempts.

What was your final score? I guess you're in first place so far

I must admit I never even considered going Green + MWs, but especially vs the bases Santi throws up around the ruins, it would really be a wise move...

Well, as soon as I contacted the AI I offered tech as a gift. That kept them off my back for a while.

I'm starting by rushing formers ASAP, then making farms for growth so I can rush CPs as soon as possible.

And by as soon as possible, I mean really the moment I have enough cash.

It helps to get lucky with the pod by University base. A monolith or special is good, a rover is nice too

Okay, Jamski what is this? When I popped pod, it gave me ogre popup, from which I learned the unit is named " !".

It has statistics of scout unit patrol, and acts as such

I tried hitting ctrl+u but it shows option to upgrade it to synmetal garrison, so I know it has infantry chasis. But it doesn`t use psi weapons?

I just tried attacking mindoworm with it - game crashed. Reload, this time I let it near mindworm - game crashed. So psicombat between it and mindworms causes crashes.

It's an old problem that first surfaced when players added units to their alpha.txt but didn't change the #UNITS number.

So it's a default garbage unit that doubles for an IoD, mindworm or even locust.

Jamski - count the units in your alpha.txt, and make sure the number corresponds to the #UNITS number. (This part of your alpha.txt file is embedded in the scenario)

(I've played the challenge three times now (am in my 3rd) and haven't encountered it. But I did get it when I first experimented with setting up scenarios a couple of years ago)

To remove it without the game crashing, center the cursor on it, close your eyes (so as not to see the map - or center the map on your discovered land and zoom to the max so as not to reveal any as yet undiscovered land) and hit ctrl and K simultaneously (activates the scenario editor), then right click on the unit and select "delete unit". Remember to ctrl and K afterwards to exit the editor and return to the game

Hmmm... I don't get any of this.

This is a SMAC scenario, not a SMAX one. Is anyone playing this in SMAX? That could cause problems.

I didn't add any units. I just made the map and tweaked the AI.

But you might have inadvertently imported an amended alpha.txt file in a scenario you've played or opened (such as the ACDG one, for example). If that was the last game you saved prior to craeting this sceanrio it could be that the file got embedded in the one you built.

Have you checked your alpha.txt file to ensure that the 2 numbers do match?

(But I am playing the challenge with no problems, so the fault might lie in the player's rigs rather than the creator's - same situation as above - their last .sav - which defines the .ini file - might have imported the imbalance and replicted it when they open this challenge)

And it wouldn't open in smax - it'd get the "terranx crash - do you wish to report this to Microsoft" message

edit : no it wouldn't - it's the reverse that creates the crash - when trying to open a smax .sav with smac. The challenge runs fine in smax

Thats the problem I noticed from the posters earlier issue he was running SMAX as if IIRC he had the PEG.

So I tried running SMAX and lo and behold I ran into the same beasties.

I did not see the problem when running SMAC.

No. "SMAC instalation" is mentioned and this does not tell us anything, but if there is text like "This is meant to be played in SMAC." This is how you do it. You can that a number of people did not realize that.

I ran it as SMAX & all was k!
And those units as you see above were 3-1-1, I were able to capture them & even use ag my enemies, but they were too weak to crush any other unit..

Hey, guys, I maybe know why I was more lucky than all of you - I popped an earthquake near Arzamas (South landing) and thus got space for 1 more base which I fully used!
