Most of your posts seem to be more like embittered cynicism than either of those.

Tired of ads?

I was amazed the last time I checked, how many members bear the Austrian flag and actually NEVERposted! On page 2 of 6 the "0"-posters start!! But I don't think it's the fact that an elite is clinging to power that retains people, after all they don't go to the OT in first place! It's the course of nature.

Since we've been bashing the OT elitists lately, perhaps we should ask ourselves if there'd be any activity at all down there without them.

If A is somehow related to B who is somehow related to C, there is said to have a single degree of seperation between A and C. If C is somehow related to D then A and D have two degrees of seperation. Add in E, you have three degree, add F and you have four degrees etc.

The idea of six degrees is that you can link anyone to anyone (i.e all 6+ billion of us on the planet) with just six linkages.

Handshakes (or other physical contact) is the usual way of determing the validity of a linkage.

Tired of ads?

Dauphin's example is messed up: A is two degrees separated from C (there being one link A-B and one B-C), three from D, and so on.

Six Degrees of Separation Inflate your Upload Space

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is derived from drunken babbling and speculation about the play and movie Six Degrees of Separation. Kevin Bacon isn't in the film, but there's only one degree of separation between the film and Kevin Bacon (who was in JFK with Donald Sutherland).

Kevin Bacon was in Mystic River with (1) Laura Linney, who was in Dave with (2) Sigourney Weaver, whose (3) niece worked (4) Tom, who is (5) my brother. I therefore have a Bacon Number of 5.

Email experiment confirms six degrees of separation

Tom Straybow?? Never heard of him.

I, on the other hand, went to Jr/Sr High School with Farah Fawcette. That's ONE degree of separation from The Angel. The other degrees don't matter: It's like a Station City giving the road/RR bonus.

It's easy to see who is right. If A links to B, is B one degree separated from A? Or is A and B really unseperable.

Talking about degree of separation, some people may remember that Shengji Yang is a bright 6 yr old neighbor kid who learnt a little about SMAC from me. Two degrees separation perhaps.

I work in an environment where seperation is acheived when the people involved are not directly related or otherwise aware of each others actions. i.e there is an intermediary. Which is probably the source of my misconception.

And of the 38 posters in this thread (37 if you don't count me), I have had some contact or connection (that I can clearly remember) with 19. Very few of the other 18 I don't recognize the sigs of.

Some work to do there, but seeing as I spend more time out of the Community than in, that's not too bad.....

Hmm... personally, I'm 2 degrees of separation from US President John F. Kennedy and 2 degrees from Basketball player Wang Zhizi of LA

[So, within 3-4 degrees, I think I have just about everyone covered ]
