I said Monarch, though if I'm motivated to do the MMing required, Emperor is enjoyable.
I've yet to finish a demi-god game because I just don't work that hard at playing any more.

To the second point, I never felt our purpose was to teach anyone anything, really. I always felt this was more of a communal get-together that attempts to improve the AI and play together and learn from each other.
I know it sounds like I'm playing semantics there, but as fine a line as it is, it's an important distinction to me. Maybe it's so subtle a difference that noone else cares, but for the usual "teach me to do X" or "why do I always fall behind at point Y", I thought that was the purpose of the strat forum.
Again, maybe it's too subtle and semantic for anyone but me to notice or even care about, in which case, just ignore me.
Edit: I left out a small bit - the point about improving the AI has always been one of the pillars of the AU. Those that are having trouble at Warlord-Regent level typically don't want better AI.
Edit: Sorry, when I said second point, I was referring to NM's "second" point about our purpose. Just to be clear on whose second point I meant. Jeeze, have I made my post confusing enough yet?

Sorry, let me eloborate:
So far we have a group of seven panelists, of whom some play at diety (alexman, Theseus, formerly Dominae).
the point about the technocracy was that the leaders of such an organisation are the smartest. While all here are undoubtedly intelligent (except me, of course. I just watch and learn), those who understand the game to an unparrelled degree in certain areas, eg game mechanics (corruption), specific strategies and their corralation to the game (OCC, exploits) etc will be able to make the best decisions since they understand the game better than all the rest, and hence improve the game.

To me, it's always been a half and half thing. The AU mod is clearly made for improving the AI and making a more enjoyable game, rather then teaching new players. The strategy forum does not have the courses that we have in the AU Forum. Depending on the view of things, if people think that the AU is not about teaching, then I ask if we can introduce it. I signed up for the Dean position because I have time, AND because I want to help the AU. I suggest we start some courses that focus on new players and advertise about it. All I ask is for someone to create courses, because I am lacking in that area.

I still don't see what that has to do with anything in the thread?

The reason there are not more Chieftain/Warlord players in the AU is that once they get to 'Poly, they "graduate" up to at least Regent pretty fast. It's true that just reading these forums improves one's gameplay immediately. So it's not surprising that most AU players at at least at Regent level.
In order attract more Chieftan-level players to AU, you would basically have to attract more Chieftain-level players to Apolyton as a whole.
