Those who had hoped that I might nominate myself, I have to disappoint. I have to study hard to get high notes in order to be eventually able to study in California for one semester. At the same time my fraternity is celebrating it's fifth lustrum and being vice president of one of the student clubs in it, I have to organize and help too, so I'm very busy with that. I will only have free time after the 10th of July.
I think that all those who MZ nominated, would do their job very well. Kloreep has already give much trust by half of the C3C ISDG members, yet one vote short, and he therefore deserves to be consul of this game.
Still I never say no and if it is required that I step forward because noone else does, I will do so.

My thanks to MZ for mentioning me, but I must decline. Being a consul would entail far more time & effort than I'm willing to put in. I'm typically around on Apolyton during the weekdays (translation: from work), but I'm rarely online at home. I've got other stuff I need to do, or would rather do.

So I'll continue to chime in with my thoughts, but we need a more dedicated team member to step up and become a Consul.

Btw, while the con does not specifically designate what to do about this case, the appropriate course can be inferred from related cases the con DOES specify and to numerous precedents.

As such, 3 days total should be given for nominations counting from the point at which Trip resigned. Seeing as Trip resigned on the 22nd, nominations will close the night of the 25th (that's tomorrow, folks... today already for some of you ).

The "campaign" will take place from the evening of the 25th through the start of the 28th. The election should start on the evening of the 28th and last for 3 days.

Given the proximity to the election for this Consul seat, the actual term will be May 30th through June 10th (yeah, not very long) before the next election on the seat.

We can either hold that second election on the 7th as regularly scheduled (think of the intervening period as a trial run for whomever becomes Consul) or we could waive it through a special ammendment cancelling only that one election (there'd be no need to add to the con for this) and authorizing whomever wins THIS election to hold the seat through September 10th.

It's up to the Senate, but I'm working on the assumption that we WILL hold another election on the 7th unless you decide otherwise.

my suggestion:

if there is only 1 candidate right now, let Trip appoint him as his deputy consul. When we have elections at the beginning of next month, we can have that candidate run, as well as any other who might change his mind by then. That way, the consular terms will not change (first week of each month)

Bloody hell! Less than 12 hours since Klo's acceptance and already you're all saying it's effectively stitched up! I was going to say yes, what the hell, especially if it was going to be just for a couple of weeks at first, but now I'm not so sure with your cozy little solution.

And Arn, you really are starting to live up to your avatar's actions - you have backdated two nominations' start times now, so that the first one meant that from the moment you posted the nominations thread (and nominated yourself) the nominations closed, and now you turn up with a post effectively proclaiming that instead of three days from the warning of when nominations close we get ONE (if that much).

I was trying to convince Arnelos in chat about that. His Reply was "That there is a mechanism for changing it", i.e. admendment processes.

He then further stated that he was just following established precidents, which he had established... My argument was, that he needed to follow the spirit of the law more, especially in this type of situation. And as for precidents, just establish some new ones.

Precidents are like Presidential Executive Orders, new ones CAN overrule older ones....

I'm still just following established precedent here, people.

1. If Trip names a Deputy Consul for the remainder of his term, there is no election until the term expires in early June. We will have an election then.

2. If Trip QUITS without naming a Deputy Consul, then we need to hold an election now. The person so elected would hold office until Trip's term runs out... which happens to be 1 week later.

Again, if you'd like to change the rules, we have an ammendment procedure. I'm not going to get into the business of changing them on my own account when the Senate is perfectly capable of changing them with ammendments if they truly desire to do so.

In the meantime, I will follow existing written rules and precedents.

By my count, if Trip is quitting without naming a Deputy Consul, you still have 9 hours in which to declare your candidacy. Stop whining and declare if you want to.

Frankly, the person in control here is Trip. His decision about whether to name a Deputy Consul controls whether or not there is an election before early June.

As for my overall philosophy on this, it's painfully simple:

1. Follow existing rules and precedents.

2. If you don't like them, don't whine, CHANGE THEM.

Given that the process for changing the rules is very very simple in this game, you have absolutely no grounds to complain about rules you don't like. Either change them or live with them.
