City Advisor 1814AD: Utica Get a bigger avatar today!

Utica has completed a Temple and has a Fanatic as a defender - the best unit in the land. It will thus stay content at pop 3, and at pop 4 providing the 4th citizen works an Ocean tile (then we get 2 Goblets = 1 happy citizen).

Currently it is building a Market. This will take around 18 turns at best. Should we stay with a Market?

Other options:

  • A Warrior to seek out new city sites on this land (2 turns)
  • A settler to improve the immediate surrounding lands (10 turns)
  • A Caravan (Wine) to send to Giza, where it is demanded (12 turns)

3 Days.

Got spare money?

Rush the market, then build enough vans to establish 3 trade routes.

...and if the new Settler encounters Barbs on its way to found another city?

Or is this settler intended to improve terrain? I could go for that.

If the new settler encounters barbs (or AI) on the way to a new city, it will likely be killed. At this point in the game I am prepared to take that chance however.

I suggest change to settler.

With the current slider settings, a market is pointless. This will be true for a while. The market gives a 50% improvement (rounded down) to taxes and lux. The tax take for the city needs to be 4 to even make a difference in income because of the 1g/turn maintenance.

I would make a a road toward Malaca before seeking another, closeby, site for a new city.

It looks to me like the only hope is to quickly build a lot more cities to get some degree of critical mass for production.

If one did not wish to lose half the shields a change to harbor, to increase food production, would make some sense. But more cities quickly seems a better path.

Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

You can bet I agree. But one of us three has not yet voted for the Settler option, as there are only two votes for it.

And 24 hour warning on the polls closing (well, 26 actually, but I should be asleep at 3am!).
