change the topics back to branching threads Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Please, DarkosQ. This new fangled stuff is hard to track. Much too chat room. Maybe make the serious forums branching thread?

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

I don't think a lot of people will be for the idea. My guess is that most like the fact that all the posts appear on the same page. The tree-structure type boards tend to have a lot of posts/posters which are ignored.

I just hate that style of forum. It takes too long to go through all the responses. I like this format much better!

If Apolyton would change to that format, I'd leave. And I bet I wouldn't be the only one. Far from it.

That format is outdated, absurd, hard to read, work-heavy, and extremely unsuited for large forums. I'm with Stefu on this one.

Changing to branching threads would be a disaster. Would ruin the forums. And I believe Dan and Markos have previously said no to this.

Wow! Doesn't anybody agree with me?

1. Well the nice thing about the branching threads is that there is less repetition of content.
2. Also, you can look at the tree and see specificaly which posts you have not read.
3. Instead of having to load a whole thread, you load a post.
4. Forums like this tend to hav more thoughtful posts and less spam.

Well, even though I hate the idea, I'll provide some 'moral support'. Branched threads aren't too bad in a small forum... but at Apolyton they'd be a disaster.

What was the old colour scheme like? Was it the one with the black background, like the CtP strategies page still is?

I agree with GP. Branching works well with USEnet newsgroups. I could download a bunch of headers, check which ones I have responded to and which branch I want to skip. That makes responding a lot easier too, since you know for a fact that the next one in the branch is related to the one you have just read.

Hey this battle's not over. I just got some support. I demand a recount! And BTW, Stew, yyyh, hardman, and jds are all with me. I appeal to the Gamestats board. We should also count those who might have supported me but were to lazy to post. Or couldn't figure out how to.

Branching topics would be nice -- if this was the Usenet.
