Save sent, email Latin Lover (danielopez{AT}supercable{DOT}es) to get on the list.
Welcome, asleepatthewheel
The team was founded in tribute to Eddie Izzard, a surrealist English stand-up Comic, with a strong line in James Mason and Sean Connery impersonations. Appreciation of his art is not compulsory but recommended (btw, I wouldn't recommend his latest release 'Sexie' - it's not a patch on the early stuff).
We'll add more to the Cake or Death? story as time permits but to start ...
We (English) had good starting terrain, with wines in our core and a ridiculously large silk clister in the southern jungle, beyond which lay the Monkeys.
Monty Python (France, and 'known as 'Python') lay to the north, on good starting tiles but surrounded by Ice and Sea. We forged a good relationship with a border agreemnent and tech trading.
Monkey started on poorer terrain with a slow tech rate, and although we tried hard to keep them up-to-speed with generous deals, they always seemed to be demanding stuff for free. They believe we 'stiffed them' over a tech deal, but they're just playing the victim.
However, when Python approached us with a view to removing Monkey from the continent (Comedia), we agreed only reluctantly, fearing that it was either us or Monkey that would get hit by Python. Python originally had a source of Iron, that we were lent for a sword upgrade but the iron vanished the turn before, and we were left without much of an army. So we built some horsemen, blew a few on an ill-fated pillage expedition, and blew a few more attacking a Monkey city thinking that Python could follow before the Monkey units healed. Unfortunately, the units heal after all civs have completed a round, and Monkey healed before Python could follow.
We now have about a dozen horsemen and are building archers prior to Invention in about 5 turns time, when we'll upgrade to longbows.
Monkey are in a despotic GA and have a ton of numids and cats.
On the other, enourmous continent, Tabemono (China, NW) and Latin Lover (Rome, NE) have the most land and power. Sunshine (Greece, SW) and MAST (Aztecs, SW) had poorer starts.
We have good relations with Tabemono, and are in a tech alliance with them and Python. Relations on the other continent are not harmonious. Don't know the whole story, but Tabemono as pissed at LL for allegedly repeatedly lying.
Monkey are trying to recruit allies from Over There (the New World, we call it) including with public propaganda but we are hoping that the others can't be arsed, and have their own continent to worry about. We are offering mutual non-interference pacts with other civs to keep them out of our war.
Our capital has at times been a 4-turn settler pump, but this is now spitting workers and the odd Archer. We have a second granary cities turning 5-turn settlers, and a third pump on 2-turn workers. We have shedloads of jungle to clear, and roads to build across our empire and to the war in the south.
Four other cities are on units : three on 10spt (archers) and one on 8spt (horsemen). Another high-shield city is building a FP near the core with a Palace-Jump planned out west.
The idea is the we take the central east-west band of the continent and Python take Monkey-land and palace-jump south after building an FP themselves.
Monkey is a tough nut to crack, though, and we're going to need plenty of longbows to get the job done.

The best things to read to catch up, IMO, are probably the diplo threads. I think I did a lot of recapping/explaining to UnO of team Tabemono (and he did likewise, there was a lot of info sharing back and forth), so check out the Tabemono contact thread.
Basic stuff:
Score: running 3rd, I think.
Pop: 2nd or 3rd.
GNP: 2nd, I think.
MFG: 2nd, but I think we're really 3rd, because Tabemono went into anarchy, so when they come out...
Wonders: none
Government: republic
Research: Invention, due in ~6 turns, IIRC.
Luxury sources: wines (1), silks (2, with 1 being traded to Python).
Not-so-basics:
We have 3 pump cities. Izzardia, our capital is the best, but it's also a barracks town, so it's currently cycling between units and workers. Burundy is a coastal town that is doing settlers. Badcrumble is a straight 2-turn worker pump.
Our Forbidden Palace is nearly complete, very close to home (Swindon, which is 4.5 tiles from our palace, as the corruption crow flies). It will help us short term and then we can do a palace jump later. Izzardia has nothing much of value in it (granary, barracks).
Our military is unimpressive: a bunch of horsemen, a few spears, 1 sword, a couple of warriors, 4 galleys, and a few archers (and more being build for Longbow upgrade). What catapults we had we "gave" to Python.
Our core has a RCP setup, at 4.5 distance, so kinda wide. I am to blame for that. Python and Monkey both went with tighter rings (3/3.5). Our land is pretty good, but of course the continent lacks iron. As such, we will most likely have a very difficult time winning the game.

sounds dicey
I've opened the save. A few questions.
Why are there ruins near al sahafs capital?
what are the two ruins in our south?
Those monkeys certainly don't care for culture, do they.
