Well, I am happy to say I have graduated to the Regent Level of play . I know, it's not that impressive, but I'm a far cry better than I was a few weeks ago.

I'm still trying to fine tune my style to pefection. I suspect playing on Regent will help in that area. The three civs I like to use the most are America, England, and France. I am still trying to decide which one I like the best, but they all seem to give you a fighting chance.

As for Germany, I have learned, take it out early. If you can box it in to no more than 2 or 3 cities and don't let it get technology.

Something else I thought was cool, if you can hang tough early on, pretty soon you'll be wheeling and dealing with the other civs and they will gladly pay through the nose for resources, maps, techs or whatever. In one game I turned around a -73 per turn economy to a +125 and still had armies and cities as big and as advanced as anyone.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that King Wang Kon of Korea looks like he could be a distant ancestor of William Hung?

I'mNowCivilized gald you are starting to cook now.

Engalnd and France and USA. What types of maps are you using?

If you have a good size, say large with contients or pangea, then US is not bad.

France can work on any map and England is better with water.

Lots of good civs out there to try. Pick one with a UU that is new to you. Maybe one with a horse type.

Here's how I set my map up

Standard World Size
Continents(70% Water)
Normal Climate
Temperate Temperature
3 Billion Age

I set my barbarians on roaming.

I might try a horse type UU. I got the Zeus wonder and was able to kick butt with those Ancient Horsemen it kept pumping out. So, I would like to see what's what.

I was pretty lucky with my resources, I was able to keep France and the Ottomans on my good side giving them horses, coal, and rubber. I was wondering do the AI civs get resources as good as the player?

Also I did notice one mistake I made. I had some Privateers off one of my coasts, in the close vicinity of Ironclads. Well, I had a Mutual Protection Pact with Jean D'Arc. So next thing I know these French Bombers come zooming out and takes care off my Privateers. LOL, Well at least France was living up to the treaty

Got spare money?

The AI will normally go after privateers. I am not fond of building them.

Many people complained that C3C has been a bit harsh on resources, you may be doing better than the norm.

In a regent game, you may enjoy China and its Rider or maybe Ottoman and the Siphai. Both are a powerful UU.

Don't feel bad I'mNowCivilized, I got the game for Christmas and I'm still struggling with Warlord, although I think 1 more game might do it, cause I've noticed significant improvement in my late game, but you know, Greece, beign the culture boomer that it is for the AI, out-did everyone. I've significantly improved since I found this website and CivFanatics though. Browse around both of these websites and you'll be even better.

Who knows, I am not much of a joiner. But I do tend to read the threads other than the parts about the mod.

Thanks Theseus. It's good to be here. Lately I have been lurking more than participating, but I follow quite a bit of what people are saying. Always trying to find that extra nugget of information, you know? Yes I want to post a pic or two of my turns but I haven't quite got that far that I know how to do it. Meanwhile, I am trying to develop a strategy that works for me. It's a little undaunting. But I wanna win and I don't like being insulted by the other civs. So, I tend not to allow myself to be bullied. Well, I have been in my share of wars that way.

Also, I guess startegies vary a bit depending on which civ you are. I'd like to learn enough about the game so that I can play my civ according to its strengths. But I am not quite there yet.

Suffering from ads?

If you are not sure about posting pictures/screenshots, here is one way. First capture the screenshot. This can be done with many tools and the printscreen key.

I prefer to use a tool called Irfanview (free). I set the capture to Shift+F11 to capture full screen. Then just position the map to what you want to have captured and hold the shift key and hit F11.

The screen is pasted into the clipboard or you can set it to be put into a file. The clipboard is just a buffer that can be manipulated by other applications.

Now you want to resize it to 800 for the board. This is an option under the tool bar in Irfanview. Another option is the save/save as. I set to save as a jpeg and use the "save as" to write the screen to my hard drive. I tend to use desktop, but can be any folder.

Once you have the screenie, come to the site and select "post reply". Enter whatever you have to say then scroll down to find the "Attach file:" selection. Use the browse button to find the screen shot and then select submit reply.

You can post a save the same way. The only gotcha is the filetypes have to match the allowed ones and be within the size limit.
