1814 - 1836 AD We're Not in Last Place Anymore! Tired of ads?

1814 - Change Utica production to Settler as decided by poll.

1816 - Gem Caravan enters Giza, 94G. Change to Xin (for Tax since we are so close to Economics and need no further research bonus). Rush Malaca Temple (population growth).

1818 - Malaca builds Temple, grows to size 2. Starts Settler. Discover Economics, start researching Medicine. Change to non-Xin. Continue Caravel near Malaca along coast. A.S. Sparrowhawk heads back toward Aploytonia.

1820 - Tip Hut past Malaca with Settler, discover Horseback Riding (apparently there are ways to ride ON horses instead of just using them as food). Change to Xin. Rush Apoltonia Settler for 34G.

1822 - Settler built in Apolytonia, start Explorer. Change to non-Xin. A.S. Sparrowhawk departs with Settler, other Caravel heading toward Apolytonia. Egyptian city Giza in Revolt.

1824 - Celts start Hoover Dam. City of Caralis established, start Temple. Change to Xin. Can't celebrate with both Caravels out of port.

1826 - Zulu discover Cure for Cancer, start Hoover Dam. Caravan exploring south of Malaca finds Whale at south coast. Change to non-Xin.

1828 - 1/2 way to Medicine. Caravan explores for Specials around Whale. Caravels moving to and from Apolytonia. Change to Xin.

1830 - Change to non-Xin. Caravan explores. Caravels moving.

1832 - Debark Settler near Malaca north of Whale. Caravel moves toward Caralis to reveal ocean squares in city radius hoping for Specials. Caravan finds Wine near Whale. :Party Medicine 3/4 done. Move Caravel into Aploytonia, decide to celebrate.

1834 - Caravan looks for more Specials near Whale and Wine. Buy Caralis Temple (population growth) for 70G.

1836 - Caralis builds Temple, starts Settler. Utica builds Settler, starts Settler. Caravan finds 2nd Whale near Whale and Wine; we have a good spot for new city. Settler heading for the center spot of those Specials. Caravel reveals ocean squares around Caralis but there are no Specials; starts toward Apolytonia. Apolytonia builds Explorer, starts Settler. Apolytonia celebrates to size 12, so I adjust Tax Rate and return to Xin. Caravel leaves Apolytonia with Explorer, heads toward Utica. Medicine very near completion.

Things to consider:

Should the Salt Caravan continue to explore or should the Caravel near it pick it up for trade route with other civ.

The Explorer is nearing the area and will be much more efficient than the Caravan.

Where should the Explorer explore.

Should new Settlers build cities or improve terrain or build roads.

Should a Caravel explore in other directions to find new civs.

What next 2 techs should we research.

Should we build a 3rd Caravel (can we support the unhappiness).

Another thing to consider...

Why are none of the boats rehomed to a colony to keep the Cap from disorder??

I would cash the van rather than risk losing it to barbs pouring from a hut (same negative applies to using settlers to explore). The question is whether to take it to Egypt or do some sea exploring. Find City for the Celtic Wonder cities indicates they are ~ two pages to the west.

I would pick up and go West. We will need to open the map evenually. But, before anything else, rehome the boat to the new city to allow the Cap to field more units (without red faces appearing). More boats are needed so the other should be rehomed too.

One road, at most, then build. Improve terrain can wait. Is it possible to spit out a settler, either by working trees and/or rushing at the end, before building the temple?? More cities faster is the need right now, I think.

WHERE to build is the question...

Blackclicking reveals a vast inland sea or ocean below the new peninsula. I recommend building canal cities that will allow more freedom of movement for our boats.
1) One such city site is next to the new settler at (95,95).

2) A two city canal possibility is the grass at (84,96) and the second at (86,100).

3) Depending what exploring turns up, fill in other cities, with some overlap to end up with a ball of production. Closer together is better logistically than widely spread out.

It would help greatly if the other choices were listed when a new research is selected. Knowing the last two lists, it is possible to determine what will be available next.

If you still have those saves, could you replay the turns before the last two discoveries and note down the choices??

Unfortunately ( ), we are playing this game as a scenario, so all tech choices that we have the prerequisites for are available every time we choose a new tech.

Excellent!! Thanks SH; I did not realize we had an open tech tree. Makes things easier, even if there are more choices, if they are all on the table.

I didn't think any of our new cities could stand the unhappoiness caused by a Caravel out of port. Is there something about Caravels that allows one per city not causing unhappiness? (I vaguely suspect there is)

Not quite, but there is something about Republic allowing one unit per city not causing unhappiness, it isn't until the second unit is outside the city before we start having happiness problems (as we are now). Therefore if we do as Monk suggests (and I confess, this didn't even occur to me ) this problem would quickly be eliminated.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I did note that the first Caravel out of port had a faded unhappiness icon and the 2nd one had a fiull unhaooiness icon. I meant to ask about that, but I was able to deal with it, so it slipped my mind.

Ah, thanks. I never hit Retire and, therefore, was not aware of this feature. Nice to know. Though it does tend to clutter up the Hall of Fame graphic.
