How to get water to a land tile? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

In Call To Power if you had a forest and wanted to have farms for the growth, you had to make a "roadway system" of terraformed tiles from either a river or some body of water..(i.e. ocean, lake, river) to the city....

Is this the same basic application here in CIVIII:Conquests?

I forget what its called in Conquests, but its the 3 squiggly lines..maybe "irrigation" if I remember correctly?

Thanks in advance for helping a "Convert-in-Training"

Peace

Yes, its called irrigation. You can't irrigate forests thought, you first have to cut them down, and if they are next to fresh water (rivers or lakes) or another already irrigated square then you can irrigate.

The fresh water requirement is key. You can't just irrigate from an ocean. You can only irrigate from rivers or fresh water (inland) lakes. After the discovery of Electricity you can irrigate anywhere regardless of fresh water, but that's pretty far into the game.

I am actually a longer Apolyton type..I started as DrDanger..(I am from High School Days of the 70's when Dr J Julius Irving was big..so got nic named Dr Danger.)..then switched in 2000 to Troll..as a joke because i was having fun in many threads...making a jest out of someones stupid remarks..someone called me a Troll..like it... kept it..then Ming the Man gave me this title as a Christmas Present this past year!

Ok..well..thanks for the welcome

And to tell you the truth..I am really having fun here with CIV III Conquests!!

Ya'll have a good day and for the most part I am harmless...mean no harm EVEN when I post a "Spirited" message of intent exposing my viewpoits....

(Oh and yeah..I want to disclose to the local probation officer and Sherriff..i am a two time offender.. )

Oh, you can use cities to bring water as well. Normally, this doesn't mean very much, but if you found a city on a hill that is next to fresh water, which cannot be irrigated, then all surrounding tiles are considered to have access to fresh water.

Which brings another interesting question?

Does anyone build on a mountain near water..for bonus of production?

Or does the mountains not give that in this game?

In CTP I would take a mountain tile because of the X2 bonus for the tile that your sitting on and then give great prodcution..and live on the surrounding land!

Not great for growth but excellent for production!

welcome (back) mr Troll.

you cant build Cities on montains in conquests (epic games anyway im fairly sure you can build cities on mountains in the age of discovery scenario).

and lets see how much fun you are having as you watch those houres whizz by as you sit infront of your PC and contemplate whether its more benificial to assign that new citizen in your city to a mined grass or irrigated plains

Epic = not a scenario. The alternative being a Conquest or fan-made scenario.

Being unenlightened and a troll is kinda redundant, not?

And as he says, the "Epic" game is the basic, non-modded one.

hehe, I used to have a screenie of one of my ai opponents irrigating across about 30 tiles of desert to get water to his civ. Unfortunately, I've formatted since, but I used to look at it every once in a while to remind me that I should NEVER EVER lose to the computer.

you can't build cities on mountains (or marshes for that matter) in normal c3c games. also, the terrain that you build on makes no difference to your food and production in your city tile (but you do get bonus commerce if you build on a resource such as gold).

The only exception to this is when your traits give you certain terrain dependent bonuses (1 extra food in city square if the city is next to fresh water during despotism and anarchy if you have agriculture, extra commerce if the city is by the coast and you have seafaring; nb. the agriculture food bonus applies to all cities if you're in any other government).

Finally, you do get defence bonuses if you build a city on a hill. I'm not sure if you get the bonus from building on other terrains (forests, jungles, etc). I don't think so, but I may be wrong.

You think right building a city on jungle/forest clears the tile, giving you flatland defence bonus only(10%?)

It acts like the ocean if it has sea or ocean tiles. If there only are coastal tiles, it will act like fresh water no matter the size.

No, there is a certain point of size where even all coast tiles will be like an inland ocean. I don't remember the exact size; 20 tiles, maybe?

You sure? I believed it was the shape that was most important. Once you got more than 3 tiles across, sea/ocean would show up.
