Umm, playing possum doesn't work all the time. Sometimes you can do too much to make your self appear the opposite of what you are and that tips the observer off more than anything else.

It's not appearing as the opposite of what we are, it's about not hinting at other teams about our true capabilities.

We've hid under the rocks for most of this game and it has worked wonders so far. After over a year of playing this game, as well as the experience in the PTWDG I'm surprised some people refuse to learn the subtle aspects of diplomacy.

I don't think too much damage has been dealt here, but I do think this chat could have been played much better as Togas suggests.

Poly and GWT are the contenders in this game. Period. Bongo can't seriously expect to normalize relations at this point in the game; he was on a fishing expedition, pure and simple, and in this chat he managed to catch some of our thoughts.

We commented on intercontinental warfare and its feasibility. We commented on what we thought of our own capabilities, GWT's, and he even got some off-hand bets on CGN's survival time. What did we get? Not a whole lot from what I can see. This chat didn't just lose us information; we had a net loss of information.

Frankly, if people are still believing we can glide "under the radar" still are being disrespectfully naive at this point in time. We weren't even under the radar back when we attacked GCA!

The same goes for those who say telling them about the feasibility of intercontinental invasions, etc. was "passing on sensitive information." They know how Civ 3 combat works, they know what effects RRs have on invasion! It's not like I was divulging any great secrets. As far as bets about CGN, I gave them more turns than I expect, trying to make CGN seem stronger than they really are. I said 8 turns because, if they do take 8 turns (or think that it will take them 8 turns and allocate resources accordingly) then our invasion will be a success because GWT won't have time to get their forces home.

GWT knows who is on our team and they know what we're capable of. They know we're not going to give up on this game and they know the position they're in.

They know they cannot win the race to the spaceship or the UN, and they know the best shot at beating us is through an invasion. The more we can play up these facts (in a noticeable, i.e. arrogant way) the more they will bear precedence for them.

Everything I said I intended to and I said for a purpose. I wasn't spouting a bunch of pro-Apolyton propaganda for no reason.
