Really? Well if I ever decide to go back to a game console, I will probably opt for PlayStation 2.

But I'm not sure if in the end, I will ever buy a game console -- been breathing, eating, and sleeping fine without one now for about eight years.

Anything this lady wants to do is fine with me, as long as she doesn't decide to become a professional writer.

She ought to have described what happened using small images of stick men, at least that would have been more comprehensible.

i didn't read all of the ebay story but i don't buy it. i think it's just a ploy to get publicity and sell the ps2 for more than it's worth. also he isn't selling any games. why is that(or did the his text mention it somewhere?)? lots of ebay ads now have stupid stories like this one because it seems to make stuff sell better.

My thoughts exactly. If he's battered and bruised, he can't make further mischief. Also, he'll learn to fear and obey his parents from that point on.

Well if its HIS playstation 2, then his parent's shouldn't sell it. One shouldn't steal in response to theft.

But the kid DID steal, and the mom rightly tallied up the amount. Let him keep the Playstation and make him pay back the $177. She probably won't get that much for the playstation anyways. Though theft, especially of something important to the parents like that bottle of wine is something serious. So maybe make him repay double in punishment. Or call the cops.

BUT if the kid had his own beer, then I'm sure he wouldn't have a need to steal from his parent's stash.

Now I'm sure people are still gonna get mad at me for one reason or another, but let it be noticed and now emphasized that I'm actually harsher on the kid than the mom in the actual circumstance outlined. But in a way that is respectful of his rights (property ownership).

Plus I've proposed a solution to stop this thing from happening in the first place.

Why not his playstation? It makes sense. The parents value their wine, the kid values his playstation.

But let me throw something else out there. A hypothetical to guide the handling of this situation.

Lets say the mom was out of town one weekend, the father was sitting around the house watching the game getting totally plastered. Having run out of beer, he uses his newly accuried booze induced wisdom to decide he should crack open that $150 bottle of wine and does so. Later into the evening he knocks over and breaks that bugle.

The mom comes home and discovers what her husband did. What should she do? What would you do? Would it be different than what she/you would do to the kid? Why?

Not hypothetical questions, I'm really interested to hear everyone's answers.

And likewise, she should of dis-owned the kid and put him up for adoption.

He has no property to own. He's a 13 year old with no job or income and probably has his parents buy the Playstation. Ergo, they have the full right to get rid of it should they choose to do so.

1. I don't agree with underage drinking. That would be a rule that, even if I have alcohol, I don't want my kid drinking.

2. I would have to have a talk with my husband about getting plastered. Once he's sober, we would do so alone.

3. I would express my disappointment that he would drink the wine I hoped we would share.
