Personally, I think that the Mafia stories, before Jamski started GMing, were sort of bland- being confined to merely a 'village' motif. However, with Mafia XIV "Mafia Gothika" and the Introduction of Jamski Van Helsing, I believe that Mafia Games were transformed. And, in fact, although XV: the space episode had its amusing points, and duke of york's XIX episode with an Agatha Cristie parody was quite nice, and Zopperoni's Assassins I was extremely well written- the 'original' XIV is my favorite because of the sheer sense of intrigue that jamski inspired

I thought the previous game to Gothika was better, but that's just my opinion. The clues were nice, especially the locked door...

well, I prefer storytelling atmosphere to game hints cleverness/etc. that's waht I meant by story intrigue

Well, the people before Jamski were the pioneers of the game, Jamski just combined the ideas and marketed it on a grander scale...

you know- I didn't intend this thread to be construed as a slam against anyone.

I was merely stating that before Jamski- I considered Mafia's plotlines to be dull since they were all similar and so 'ordinary.'

We were all just playing the mold before Jamski came along and broke it. I suspect that Mafia/Assassin will never be bland again.

Vovan was the first one to introduce the backdrop element, though. That in my opinion was the turning point in the game's history, before that it was just random vote-throwing. Now I can't even imagine a Mafia game without a background story of some kind.

Granted, the transition from the Village theme was important as well, methinks people defaulted to it not because they were unimaginitive, but because they didn't have the guts to try. *cough*

I'm partial to Kassi's, mainly 'cuz it's the 1st I played in.

Gothica is my fav, though, b/c of the atmosphere.
