Do the doctors know yet what caused her heart to fail? Sometimes these things are inheritable defects of the heart. If she hasn't already (before or after this tragedy), your surviving daughter should be checked to ensure a long and healthy life.

One of the most horrible things I've ever had to do was go to the funeral of a friend's 6 month old baby. Both extended families were devastated by the loss, and when I went by the casket all I wanted to do was pick up the baby and hold it close to me and tell it everything was going to be OK.
This happened six years ago, and I am crying now just remembering it, the emotions were impressed upon me so deeply.
You have my families utmost and deepest sympathy, Ogie.....

Ogie, I know that words are nothing at a time like this, but for what small comfort it might be, please take whatever strength and hope you can get from all our sympathy and condolences.

I'm very sorry to hear this. It's good that you've chosen to give the child a name. You may even consider giving the child a funeral. Physicians who deal wirth this sort of tragedy feel that parent's do better emotionally when they acknowledge the life of the child and treat it's death in the same manner that they would have if the child had been live born.
The fact that the baby's heart stopped beating is not necessarily a sign of a congenital defect. The cause of the infant's death may have been something as simple and as accidental as a kinked umbilical cord. You and your wife will want to get as much information as you can from the obstetrician so that you will have a good idea about the risk of future pregnancies.
