UN Rule: Banning FP Bug Exploit Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Posted by bongo of GWT:

quote:

Do we have a list of bugs/exploits/cheats etc that are not allowed for this game?

In any case I'd like to propose the following addition.

By placing your capital far away from the rest of your empire, those cities closer to the forbidden palace than the Capital(almost all if you do it right) will get drastically lowered corruption as this rather strange palace placement messes up rank-corruption.

As all should know by now, GWT currently posess several cities in the southern part of former Netaland. Moving our capital down there would give our economy a serious boost. However, this is an exploit we don't want to use, and we don't want other teams to use it against us.

Therefore, we suggest to ban use of this exploit for the remainder of this game.

Bongo, Minister of War, German Webring Team

I think it's a no-brainer, I especially don't want GWT or GCA to use this exploit (and I'll truly laugh if GCA votes in favor)

Clearly it's an exploit. As I noted in a post in Bongo's thread at the UN, however, it may be difficult to properly define a ban against it - it's more of a "spirit of the game" thing.

Clear exploit of a bug. Do not use. Simple.

As Arrian said, hard to quantify. But this exploit certainly shouldn't be used.

I've been trying to think of why GWT would bring this up now. I mean they have had quite a while to think about the lands that once belonged to CGN, I'll bet they had planned all along to give most of it to GCA even. So, now why the interest in building a FP down there for themselves?

I'll tell you a likely reason...They got a GL from a battle. That would explain it. I mean what can they build with a GL right now? The GL? Not likely. The War Academy? Not likely either since they are militaristic and likely have a barracks in every city already. Teh only thing it would do for them is save them the upkeep cost. So I guess it's possible.

My point is is that they are thinking along the lines of most bang for the buck. And using a GL for a FP far away from your core is an excellent use of one.

Just my thoughts on the subject....

Unless they use it before then....

They could possibly build an Army and then pre-build for the Military Academy; at least that's what I would do at this point. With as many barracks as they have now, they MAY just decide to go with getting the upkeep taking care of for them.

Who got the Great Leader ?

If you mean GWT, then I dont see the problem.
They cant rush a forbidden palace, because they have one built already (unless they disband the city).
But they can rush a new palace down south, giving them this buggy corruption boost.
Thats bad ... but what would happen if we then destroy their FP ?
Their entire North will become hopelessly corrupt.
Their capital will be South, with the bulk of their cities in the North with no FP.

Or am I missing something ?

If anything, I think we should encourage them to rush a new palace in the south

The idea is that wetake out the FP, and then they rebuild it with the GL that they will have saved.

?! Are they trying to prevent certain locations for our capital? That's a very strange thing to ask...

How would placing the capital further away from your core decrease corruption, anyway?

BFM: it's an actual bug in the program. Alexman could probably explain better than I could, but here goes:

Due to the bug, any cities closer to the FP than the Palace get the lowest (?) city rank for the purposes of corruption. Of the two components of corruption (rank & distance), it's rank that matters more. So, by moving your palace to a distant spot and having all your cities closer to the FP than the Palace, you effectively eliminate rank corruption in your empire. Distance corruption would increase in some cases, but on balance you're better off. Bongo points this out in his latest post at the UN - and specifically says our recent palace move was a-ok by him. He's not talking about that. He's talking about a very specific exploit.

I voted yes. Why would someone want to keep an exploit in the game?

Ah -- that's a pretty nasty bug. However, who's going to decide whether any new palace location is allowed? The referees in this game ... well ... you know.

I think it's rather about moving their palace than building another FP if they've got a leader and are not intending to build an army.
They could simply rush the palace somewhere in the south and most of their lands would have very low corruption. Not that it seems like they are going to do it, but they probably must have thought of this.
