Aside to the fun that Octy and I are having with our campaigning for Consul (see the Consular poll thread), I thought perhaps it would be good to have a separate place to mention, seriously, what our respective advantages are, and why we want to be Consul.
Having a look through the members list, most of you are familiar to me, and many I would consider friends, and who would know me well enough by now. However there are a number of you I have not had any real contact with yet, whether you are enjoying lurking around in here or whether you are posting happily along with the rest of us. So I thought perhaps I should let you know a bit about me.
I have been a Poly member since November of 2001. Quickly I got involved in the first Democracy Game here, the Civilization 2 one. After setting us up for victory as Supreme Military Commander in the second to last term, I was the final President of that game, and was honoured to lay the final smacketh down on the AI. Soon after that the Civ3 DG started.
After that things kinda steamrolled. I have been President of the Civ3 Single Player Democracy Game more times than I can remember, and 3 times out of 10 for the first game alone, and along the way have picked up many friends who are heavily active here and in the other DGs - UnOrthOdOx, Togas, Arnelos, GodKing, E_T, Kloreep, Donegeal, and even OctX. I am happy working with almost anyone. Recently, I have been getting to know Fried-Psitalon, the PAL team member from Poly who is so vital to our alliance with them.
Because of my DG activity, I have considerable experience in almost every facet of the game, including Team games - I have been helping to direct the military before, have participated in Foreign Affairs and been a diplomat for the Roleplay team in the first PtWDG and interpreter for the Latin team in the second PtWDG. I have been putting my ideas forward to help out with City planning right here, and strongly advocated the alliance with PAL right from the moment con brought it up. I have been a Consul in the other team game - the PtW Intersite Democracy Game. Furthermore I am well used to the mod powers granted on these forums, and seem to have these semi-permanently in some forums, and have dealt with MarkG (who has me on his Buddy list! ) and DanQ frequently.
All of this should mean I am a great Consul candidate. I have also noticed that the save often arrives late at night for me, at a time when Europeans are at work and North Americans are asleep. I could often times play the save (where there were orders posted and no surprises), and send it on within a couple of hours of it arriving. This would be a great way of keeping that save moving as fast as possible.
So, Octy - guess it's your turn...

Speaking in all seriousness, this campaign has given me a good laugh. It's always fun when one candidate seeks to destroy another...
Seeing as MWIA has brought it up, it's now time to further introduce myself to those Apolytonians who don't know me. I can't say I've been active here as WIA here, even though I registered this account three months after him. A little more history about myself certainly won't hurt.
I first started playing in democracy games in July of 2002 (iirc), in the 1st CFC Civ3 DG. 'Twas the fourth term of that game when I was appointed Governor of the new province of Scythia, with an entire three newly-captured cities in my charge (the rest were in Greek hands). I later became a Trade Minister and Chief Justice of the last term of that game. And, since it, in the second, third, and fourth CFC SPDGs, I've served as everything from President, Vice President (for an astonishing five terms in a row - meaning that, at CFC, I was runner-up in five Presidental elections), Minister of Trade and Technology, various positions on the Court, and as a Governor. Somewhere in there, I was also a President for the Civ2DGII at CFC. During that time, I did more than I actually remember - things that stand out include one eight hour long turn chat I presided over, and a time where I got myself off a huge charge of manipulating build queues without proper consent on a technicality.
And, of course, there was the PTWISDG. That was when I really started working with the people here, in Apolyton's ISDGFAM - MZ, Togas, Arnelos, ZargonX, notyoueither, WhiteBandit, Trip, MrWhereItsAt, ET. and BigFree come to mind.
I first became really active here at Apolyton in April 2003, when I signed up for Team Monty Python in the PTWDGII, a team I'm still on today. I also became an early member of the Human Hive team in the ACDGII. Not suprisingly, both those teams are winning the wars they are fighting today.
Looking at all that, when it comes down to it, I see myself (probably similar to MWIA) as more of a guy interested in all the FA aspects of the game. Admittedly, my city placement is rather haphazard (read: throwing darts at a map, and planting cities accordingly), and I'm not the greatest when it comes to planning domestically and militarily. It's the interaction between the teams that fascinates me most, and thus, it's the area where I think I do my better work.
I like the direction this team is headed. I support the city placement and planning under GodKing's planning, as well as the plan for an allied attack with PAL against CDG. Granted, I opposed several aspects of the alliance with PAL for strategic reasons, mainly because we were essentially willing to blindly follow PAL's lead, instead of taking the lead ourselves to gain more equal footing - but this is a discussion for another time and place.
MWIA has no time advantage over me - when it's dayime for him, it's the middle of the night for me. That's no problem, seeing as I'm essentially nocturnal (and will be for the rest of the summer).
I'm also good with working with the team's preferred mode of communication, IRC. If you ever have any troubles with it, have any questions, etc, plase ask me.
That's about what I have to say on my behalf - experience and dedication. It's for these reasons that I am the better man for the job, the one that deserves re-election.
Comments and questions are, of course, welcome.
