Favorite minor nations Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

What was fun (winning or getting crushed)?

How do I get explorers etc faster? I always struggle when playing some of the more minor minors is that I run out of space to expand.

Is there an Australian Aboriginal civ?

I always enjoyed Brandenburg. Explorers will come eventually, but the only way to get in on the ground floor is by stealing maps and/or conquest against major powers.

When I played Brandenburg I would usually be able to colonize most of the huron area and an indonesian island or two.

I tried playing aztecs. I crushed everything I could see, and just got into a boring cycle of sending colonists out and building huge ultra cheap armys to await invasion.

Death by boredom

You get random explorers faster by focusing your Domestic Policies towards Naval and Free Trade. For Conquistadors go Narrowminded.

I like to play as Savoy. The Italian-French culture allows a you to expand in either direction without as much need to worry about cultural unhappiness. I find a good tactic is militarily vassalise Milan, and then it will sooner or later be militarily annexed by the Papal States, Genoa, or Austria - you can then take the province into your empire after a war.

As with any game as a minor nation you need to be careful with you alliances. Big nations are a good deterrent, but then you get dragged into the big wars that way.

They're not really minors, but Venice and Persia are by far my most favourite nations.

Palatine/Pfalz, you some nice Annexation Canidates near you, although you have to watch the Alliance& BB Situation.

Timurid Empire, straight up the best nation if you want lots of excitement. A shot at world conquest if you can survive the initial...speed bump.

Any of the russian minors are fun, since you can become Russia later on...I think it's probably the country with the most interesting history...EVERYONE is your enemy!

Lorraine! French/German culture gives you access to the most valuable real estate on the map. If you control all French and German provs, you're the biggest, baddest economy by default...

I had a great game as Navarra. Didn't win the VP race, but finished second to France. I did stick to Spain and England.

That's a good strategy, but only for first decades. As Trebizond, I sticked to Turkey, to betray it and destroy as soon as possible...

That was a typo, I meant "stick it to" Spain and England. It tooka while, but once Spain was colonizing and had her troops scattered to the wind,.... WAR! It was easy getting a huge war score and take provinces from her. Same thing w/ England.

The most dramatical part of my game as Trebizond was the Constantinople case.
I was besieging it hands to hands with Turks, and at the end of the war, Turks took all Byzantine provinces but this one. My army was still present in this province. I was a tiny state, only 2 provinces, perhaps 20 000 citizens... And this province itself had several times bigger population than mine... So I decided to declare war, though I lost 6 stability because of that and was vulnerable to attack from the east...
I took the city and jumped up in the ranking.
It was actually a very immoral thing to do...

Yeah, they suck. I hate mine vassals that suddenly cancel vassalship and attack me, or allies that refuse to join me at war and attack me the next minute.
